Archived from groups: rec>motorcycles>tech (more info?)

My alignment of recently installed RK sprockets and chain kit looks a
bit off. I'm getting a shiny spot on the inside (right) side of the
chain. Rear sprocket was installed with 43T stamp showing
outward/flat side inward. Front looked to be totally symmetrical, but
could have been wrong. My estimation is that the two sprockets are
off-plane by about 30-40 thousandths of an inch. I'm considering
inserting very narrow washers behind the rear sprocket to bring them
in alignment. Other option is to flop the front sprocket.

Any suggestions?

George

My service manual says nothing about the alignment of the sprockets, and
even if it did, there's no guarantee that the RK units are the same. Did
the sprockets come with any documentation? You might also check the
archives of the VFR mailing list:

If you're not already on the list, it's almost certain that someone
there has dealt with this problem and can answer your question. They're
a great bunch.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
