Heading out to Roma through Gatton.
Stretch of road drops from 100 to 80 on a downhill stretch.
20m after speed camera - goes back to 80.
Booked at 110 - $250 + 4 points - noone was hurt.

Q1. Is it fair game for the coppers to sit at the base of a 300m decline +
set up a speed trap.

I admit I was speeding.
I admit I was lucky to get away with a punishment as light as this and the
situation could have been worse.
I found the cops professional and very fair.

WTF are they doing laying ambushes ?
Isn't it revenue raising / lazy / questionable ?

If the Police are going to use these spots as collection points - why have
them ?

Is it simply a case of - "You fucked up - get over it "?

*** 20m after speed camera - goes back to (100) - not 80.

From 100 to 80 - downhill stretch of 4 - 500m - back to 100.

Speed camera at 80.
Booked doing 110.

Considering nitrous system - any suggestions welcome.

The answer is yes the pigs ambushed you and its not fair. It IS all
about revenue, they dont really care about saving lives etc. they have
their quota's to meet.

The courts support them, the government gets your money to waste.

same section of road, who is saving who from what ????

don't speed through there again?

Sounds dodgy, having never been there however you have to agree with me that
the white signs with the red circle do stand out. sadly the numbers enclosed
do not correlate to anything but a lowest common denominator (the aged that
no longer need to have their sight tested in QLD).

cop it sweet, make sure everyone knows it's a trap. flash headlights at will
next time you see one on the 'tuther side of the road. hope like hell
someone does the same for you.

If in NSW I was under the impression that there was an agreement for
them not to do speed traps at the bottom of a hill. Give NRMA a call -
see what they have to say!

It's fair game to put one anywhere. I speed as much as the next guy, but if
I get caught, I cop it sweet. I know I was doing the wrong thing. You've got
brakes. If you're brakes had failed, you'd have a fair case, but then you
wouldn't have continued all the way home.

 > WTF are they doing laying ambushes ?

2 schools of thought.
1: Revenue
2: Speeding down a hill is dangerous. It takes longer to brake as you
are fighting gravity as well as your momentum.

 > Isn't it revenue raising / lazy / questionable ?
Depends on the exact situation. I'm not a Queenslander, so I don't know
the road. Maybe, maybe not. Have there been many accidents around there
lately?

 > If the Police are going to use these spots as collection points - why have
them ?
To act as collection points. Money has to come from somewhere.

 > Is it simply a case of - "You fucked up - get over it "?

So even if it was a 100 zone, you were 10 over the limit. May not have
been wheeled by the cops for only 100.

 > Considering nitrous system - any suggestions welcome.
Don't know about Queensland, but they're illegal for road use in NSW.
(Like BIG TIME illegal.) You can have you bike rigged up for it, but you
can't actually have the bottle connected on the road. (Or something like
that. Someone more knowledgable on all the legal bits and pieces will
correct me and make me look like a goose I'm sure.)
Why do you want nitrous? What bike are you riding? How often do you take
it to the strip? What quater times are you running now?

Suggestion: If you want more power, buy a ZX12, or a Hirebus.
If you still want more power, have a FAT wallet.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I don't think that's right actually. I seem to remember my ex (a copper)
telling me something about them only being allowed to operate them in
'approved' spots.

And then we all stop speeding for a week and the Victorian gov. shits
themselves, going broke etc. etc.

QLD revenue from cameras and speeding tickets ALL go to the CTP insurers.
not a cent goes to the Government or coppers.

Sadly not the case in some of the other states.

i believe this to be the case...who 'approves' what is unknown
there were supposed to be guidelines negotiated by 'motoring
organisations' when the camera's were first introduced...who thinks they
are actually upheld?
we had one spot on a hill locally, with bushes to hide the sign in
too!!, every few weeks they'd park there...then i got the shits with it
and took photo's of the setup intending to find regs and complain if
there was a breach.
never got aroundtuit
havent seen it there for months now<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
