MX Tuner knew all about this. Turns out the float bowl (and slide cap)
screws are "narrow #2 Philips head" or something close to that term.
Tool makers actually make a narrow #2 driver which fits those screws
better than a standard #2. The screw head LOOKS like a #1 Philips only
because the wings are not as wide, but it is actually sized for a #2
driver.
If you try to remove it with a #1 driver, guaranteed strip.
Here's an example:
roup_ID=720&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog>
You can also find these bits marked "for drywall screws."

No it doesn't (I know you're joking to some degree). Loosen the phillips
screws on the carb boots both to the intake and the airbox and you can
rotate it juuuust enough to get to the bowl plug on the bottom. Take that
plug out and there you go...Pilot and Main city. Nothing to it...3 minutes
and you're done. I've done it a number of times on my '04x.

On any of the aluminum framed bikes I've worked on (CRF-Rs and
YZ-Fs), there wasn't enough clearance between the frame rail to
rotate the carb enough to do much at all. Certainly no needle or
pilot changes. Or even swapping out the air screw. Main jet,
maybe.

Pilot and main are right next to each other such that removing the bowl plug
(17mm I think) gets you both. Turn the top of the carb to the right/toward
the kickstarter side. At least on the FCR that comes with a 250x.

I've always had to pull the bowl to get the pilot out. I'll try
harder next time.

I like that, and it fits well on so many levels, but I've also seen him
sliding like a speedway rider in frighteningly large arcs. I'm not sure how
to reconcile these two sides to Mike's multi-faceted personality. I think
"SpongeMike" has a nice ring to it, though.
Me, I'm a momentum and finesse kind of rider, but then, Mike's seen me
sliding like a speedway rider in a frighteningly too-large arc that ended in
a Hail Mary bermshot on the 4 inch high bulldozer berm at the edge of the
earth. Smooth. Riding with Mike just seems to pull you into adventures like
that.
I think I might be Patrick.

Tami gets the credit - she came up with the name in a ride report she
posted a while back.
Google.... Google... Google...
Turns out I had it wrong, it's SpongeMike Squaretrail.
