I may be going to Taylor Park, Co to ride in August. The problem is my
old KDX (89) doesn't have a spark arrestor. It only has a DG silencer. I
can find pretty cheap arrestors on Ebay for KX 125s or KX 250s. Now,
could I buy one of these and remanufacture it to fit my bike? By
cutting off the existing pipe on my silencer and the existing pipe on
the new arrestor then welding my silencer pipe to the new arrestor? Then
welding some tabs on to match my mounting holes?

By cutting the pipe I don't mean the header pipe I mean the little piece
of pipe connected to the silencer and spark arrestor. Some are bent some
are straight.

Just looking for a more inexpensive way than spending $100 on a SA.

Thanks
Darin

Keith put a clamp-on "Sparky" SA on his '89 CR for some of the enduros that
required them. It was cheap and worked fine. Jim Cook can probably hook you
up with something that'll work.

BTW, what trails do you like at Taylor?

I've seen those and that will probably be the route I go unless I can
jerry rig an actual spark arrestor. But I'm a cheap bastard. It seems
all my bike fund money goes into my sons race bike these days.

This will be my first time out there. A bunch of guys from around here
are going the first of August and have been telling me I need to go. I
really need too. It sounds like a blast.

Thanks

I had a Sparky spark arrestor on a 92 CR, worked fine with me. I even rode
at some trails where they were strict on the db's...it's cheap too!

Try to hook up with someone who's been there before because the trails can
be quite confusing and the maps only work if you already know the trails
<g>. But the trails are well worth the effort. You won't be disappointed.

I have a Cobra Sparky that might fit. Right now it's providing a home for a
family of spiders. Perhaps we could do a deal. You'd have to let me know if
you want the spiders or not.
