I've come to the conclusion that my Chevy Tahoe LTD is SUCH a piece of shit
that it looks like going to have to get rid of it. I can't really afford to
take the hit of dumping it now, but it's not safe to transport the kids
anymore, and it doesn't look like it's current bevy of malfunctions can be
fixed (so we can't even sell it). I suppose I could park it overnight in
Lawrence, but I really want to drive it through the dealership showroom and
set it on fire - either way, I'm in the market for another kid-hauler.
My wife likes driving a big gas-guzzling SUV, primarily for the full sized
7-passenger capability with a full-sized rear seat (though she doesn't want
a van - I think it's penis envy). Unfortunately, after the nightmare we've
had (and are still having) with our Tahoe, buying another American vehicle
is extremely unlikely. New trucks are simply too f'in expensive, so I'd
like to find something a few years old.
Any suggestions?

Nissan Armada.
My old lady is begging for a 4 door Titan. I shouldn't have showed it
to her until I had the cash for a down payment!

I feel your pain... my vehicle is history too as soon as I find something
that doesn't suck. What I see for options:
Buy American WITH the bit warranty. Never NOT.
Pre-96 F250's give me a hardon.
Jap stuff (No offense)
The only Lexus I'd consider is the Land Cruiser and I'm not sure it sucks
less than the GX... but it HAS to.
The Toyota Sequoia seems like a worthy consideration. Big and reasonably
priced.. I hope your Toyota dealer is less full of himself than mine.
Chevy-san...
Pacifica with the big warranty?
How about a conversion project on that cool freightliner van I see around?
Good luck.. cars suck.

Sorry, I didn't notice the "few years old" until I replied, but here goes
anyway. You said vans were not suitable, but a Dodge Sprinter looks to
me like something more than a typical van. Far as I know it's a new model
for 2004 in the USA, so not much chance for a used one.

With the seats out it would hold a nice assortment of bikes

Yea, I don't totally disagree with you. You can get the newer ones
without that huge chrome front end which helps a bit, but appearance
isn't the issue for me anymore. That's the nut of Jays decision, too.
I have a 2002 E250 that hasn't left me stranded, but it's had way more
than its fair share of problems, including a recurring "Check Engine "
light the dealer can't figure out, an ignition switch that spins
freely without a key, paint totally flaking off the front and rear
bumpers, and eating a set of front tires in under 24,000 miles because
the alignment was all screwed up right from the factory.
I'm also pretty skeptical the modular 5.4 V8 is putting out the power
Ford is claiming, because they have zero balls. I thought it might
have been my van (and possibly related to the check engine light)
until I drove another 5.4 that was equally gutless.
The domestics still own the heavy duty pickup market, but I feel
they've been exceeded in the SUV, mini pickup and light duty full size
pickup segments by Toyota and Nissan.

Did it. Have a 5yr/100k on the shitbox m- useless. Warranties are only as

The Land Cruiser is a Toyota and I looked at one. My wife likes them, but
they are too much dough and too small.

Yea, the Toyota Sequoia is a possible - same as my truck...at least it'll
run, if nothing else. Lots of dough there too...

I own a 96 Toyota Land Cruiser (FZJ-80)- best vehicle I have owned. Solid
front axle, all wheel drive, heavy, safe, and super reliable. Probably not
big enough for a bunch of kids, although it seats seven. The 2000 and newer
100 series are tough trucks and nice inside but lack the solid front axle of
the pre 2000 models (they are also 70k new).
Toyota Sequoia is a nice option if you need more room, don't need the off
road capability, and want to spend less. I have heard good things about
them.

The only real problem with the Armada is price (gotta be new, since they
are). Also gas milage. I have a friend who bought a Titan 4x4. He's
getting between 8 and 11 MPG, depending on load, I imagine the SUV would be
worse.
