I picked up one of those kits myself after seeing Brian's. He should get a
commission.
I tossed the cartridges for a real air pump, though.

I looked at the Slime compressor, but it wouldn't fit in the tail of
the bike. I thought about taking it out of the case, which would make
it sizeable to fit, but I couldn't see spending $40 on something then
cutting it up. I got a small bicycle pump that goes to the frame of a
bike. It fits neatly to the side of my subframe.

When I did my search for it, about 3 links down was a JC Whitney link
to buy. I wasn't sure what the exact name or manufacturer was when
Morgan asked, but I remembered the "pocket plugger" name.

Hope all is well with you and yours, Morgan. Hope that link helps.

Slime makes a nice sized 12V pump, comes with cigarette lighter, clip,
and Battery Tender leads, about $40.

Or, you can go buy a 12V compressor made for cars, and take it out of the
plastic case.

Joe and I were riding with a friend and had just left the gas station on the
south end of town. We were headed to the west end of PK Lake and hadn't
even gone 2 miles, when suddenly the rear of Joe's bike starting going from
side to side. I rode close to him and yelled that he had a flat. He had
picked up a screw in his back tire.
Our friend and I left Joe on the side of the road and headed back to town.
We went to O'Rielly's, where we purchased a can of Fix-a-FlatT and a tire
plug kit. Joe used the Fix-a-Flat and what a mess it made! It came out of
the spoke holes and everywhere else, getting on Joe, the tire, the bike,
everything. He then limped back up to the station and added air. He barely
made the 28 miles home.
After cleaning up all the goop, he used the plug kit and it held fine. It
was still working when he finally replaced the tire. 2 weeks later he
picked up a screw in his new tire. He plugged the hole and the tire lasted
over 18k miles.
Luckily he hasn't picked up any more screws... or nails. Just in case, we
carry plug kits and a handy little foot pump. No more Fix-a-Flat! I
wouldn't use SlimeT on a bike tire, either. I use Slime for our lawn
tractor tires.

There are cheaper repair kits that may be superior for small holes.

Here's a link I found with a picture. This sort of repair kit is available
at most auto part stores. Rather than the mushroom plugs it uses rubber
strings that have bumps... a little adhesive/vuncanizing goop goes with the
insertion.

http://www.amazon.com/Slime-Deluxe-Reamer-Plugger-Storage/dp/B000ET9SA...ef=pd_b

I carry one like the above and an aerosol can tire inflator. Both products
were designed for car tires. I haven't had to use them but it would sure
beat walking.

If you have spokes (1), you have a tube and tire. These are not
recommended for plugs, or fix-a-flat.

I suggest a set of tire irons, and a patch kit, or what I have for my
Triumph, towing service.

(1) Some BMWs have spokes that attach on the outer part of the rim,
outside the bead, and you can get spoked wheels sealed so that you can
use tubeless tires. Neither of these solutions will have fix-a-flat
oozing out the spoke holes.

Yes, I know it's not recommended for tubed tires but in a bind, you do what
you have to. It was messy but it worked temporarily.

Well, Joe managed to ride it home, then plugged it and put a patch on the
tube. I forgot to mention it also had a hole in it... my bad.
But the goop still finally plugged all holes, including spoke holes.
Breaking down any tire on the side of the road, is not the easiest thing to
do. Don't ask how I know...

I may get new wheels and go for tubeless tires. That's a cheaper solution
to buying another bike and I'm happy with what I ride.
