Suzuki can't seem to sell-out the 2003 SV1000. Suzuki even dropped the naked
SV1000 from it's 2004 offering. Any thoughts on why the SV1000 is so
unpopular, yet the SV650 sells well?

sv650's rule....and have since inception. The 1000's just
don't seem to have caught on and I'm not sure why. They
aren't overly heavy, they aren't overly underpowered, they
just don't seem to have struck everyones fancy the way the
650 did.

I wouldn't mind a nice 750 version myself....just enough
more power to handle bigger tracks, or more 2-up work.

I dunno they seem just as popular or more so than the bike they replaced.

The SV1000 has better suspenders than the SV650, and it has 118 BHP. So, why
would the "SV650 rule" and the SV1000 not "rock"?

Ah, I detect some clever sarcasm here with the TL reference;-) The SV650 has
the same basic heritage, but with less displacement.

A bit, but seriously, as bad a bomb as the TL-S was, the SV1000 is a great
success!

Neither sell particularly well around here. They painted the 1000s in boring to
ugly paint schemes. This doesn't help a bike that isn't a spec sheet player to
begin with.
The '05s are here and Suzuki designers bought a clue with the paint. Still
gonna be tough to influence the testosterone driven youngsters to save a few
bucks and get something short on power compared to their buddy's bike.
I for one am a big fan. Here's hoping they have another miserable sales year so
that I may be able to pick one up next fall on the cheap.

I am a fan as well. I was thinking the Triumph if the Buell explodes
but, you know the SV 1000 is my kind of bike when I think about it. A
great v twin not very heavy and most likely very reliable. I wish i
could take one for a test ride. Buell should have made a bike like
this.

Not a damn clue. I thought a big version of the sv650 would
just fly out the door...but the discounting around here in
Denver says otherwise. Hell, for 2 years it was hard to get
any discount on an sv650...the 1000's were getting them
early and big.

Could it be the intended market? sv650's cover the spectrum
from beginners ( someone who owned mine for 3000 miles ) to
people like me who trade a 929 in to get one.

Could it be that more experienced riders just have so many
different directions to go in, versus a more limited
selection for beginners? And the sv is one of the few bikes
that can span both groups of people?

Mike, Buell actually makes one of the few products that
appears to be occasionally innovative and different, they
just have a junk motor. And all it would take for Buell to
become something other than a giggling joke afterthought
would be to drop in a real motor, and at this point I don't
even care who's, as long as its a good one and not some
other HD piece of crap.

Maybe the SV1000 doesn't meet the "Squidly" factor. You know, hasn't won an
AMA race, Isn't pictured with hot babes with custom installed boobs, only
come in solid colors (no race stripes), and don't make the high pitched
angry bees sound at 9K rpm.

Either way, I'm picking up my new 2003 SV1000S tomorrow. A nice bright
copper. I'm even taking my Harley-riding father with me.

I have an sv650...its a compact balanced machine. The 1000
struck me as a bit of a whale... still Id probably like it OK
if I had one.

I think it would sell better as a leaner and meaner street
fighter type configuration.

Hey Troy,

What's the torque like on the 650?

I have an SV1000, and am totally pleased with it.

The basic problem with the SV1000S is it's a bit too sporty to be a
sport-tourer (it has supersport ergonomics), and not flashy enough, mostly
cosmetically, to be a pure sport bike. And it's priced way too high, to be
related to the SV650 line of motorcycles.

It's no slouch, as the following web site will demonstrate..

http://www.sportrider.com/bikes/146_perf_nums/

I think mine, with the color matching full fairing, devil hi mount exhaust,
is a great bike.
