Archived from groups: alt>motorcycles>ducati (more info?)

I have an '04 ST4S with a side stand that does not seem to sit flat. The
foot of the stand touches ground on the outer edged kitting into the
surface. On blacktop it cuts into it in a matter of minutes. I find myself
using the center stand all the time now which is a bit of a hassle.

Anyone else having similar issues?

I see that Cycle Cat offers replacement side stands that I may try. Anyone
else try one of these?

Thanks

Do you have the ride height set really high? I think I have that the right
way around.

There has just been some discussion on the www.ducatisportingclub.com
message forum about "turning the bike around using the sidestand".
Apparently dealers do it a lot to manoever them in the showroom, and there
are occassional reports of the mountings breaking. I am wondering if there
has been some strain on it there and damage occurred? Worth checking that
out before it ends up flat on it's side on the black top!

On a imilar note, I have just bought my lad a 125cc Supermotard that suffers
a similar problem. It is totally upright when on the sidestand. I can
imagine a gust of wind off-balancing it. THis evening we are going to grind
the foot off the stand and re-weld it a little shorter to increase the lean
angle.

Cheers
HW

Yes, you have it right, but ride hight is close to stock. Juste tuned for
my ride weight byt someone who knows bike suspensions.

It is sitting on the outer edge of the foot. I would think if the stand was
tweeked by someone dooing as you say it would be the other way around.
There is no evidence of it being stressed, but likely hard to tell anyway.

I bet they are using the dirt bike stand and the motard probably sits lower
hence the lack of lean angle.
Most of the stands I have seen are cast. My understaing is that welding
steel to cast will not work. You might want to check this out before puting
the grinder to it.
