Does anyone out there own a SS1000DS? They seem interesting to me. One
guy who I was listening to who raced one said that a rod broke after 1
season of racing though... Not good. And I know they just recently had a
recall on the valve guides on either the 1000cc or 1100cc DS motor, not
good either.

But it seems like it would be a blast to ride, with an engine with all
that torque.

Wouldn't mind getting hold of an 1100cc engine and sticking it in my
900SS frame Smile

Have you ever imagined a world with no hypothetical situations?

I think it might not be a simple swap... I think the cylinders are
taller so you need a different set of pipes. I'm not sure if the 1100cc
cylinders are taller than the 1000cc either, and there never was a
1100cc SS bike...

What fun that would be though. If you actually did find one, you might
be able to get a good deal on your 900 engine. The cranks in those are
sometimes sought after for 996 owners, because they are a very simple
swap (as simple as a crank can be anyway) and you get a 1026cc engine
when you're done. Maybe you already know this...

same great motor in my sc1000 - much better than the ole 900 carby motor in
my 96 900ss, i havent ridden a 900ss efi tho

lots of torque , mine makes about 80hp and around 66nm of torque

i beleive the ss and monsters make a bit more hp due to air box shape

usually they are pretty indestructible, not heard of the recall on valve
guides have to check n that

The bike in question was an '05 Multistrada 1000DS. Maybe they fixed the
problem by the time the SC bikes came out.

I'm in the process of doing guides in my 996 motor right now... They
seem damned expensive for what they are...

99 honda vtr 1000 vs 00 ducait 900ss? - Hello, at the risk of touching off a flame war. What would your opinion be as to which is the better buy: a 99 Honda VTR-1000 for $5000 or a 00 Ducati 900ss for $6000. Both have around 6K miles. I've ridden a VTR before but not a 900ss. From what..
