I like the idea, but I'm not sure you can do it... mind you, steel toecap
boots are exempt, as "safety equipment", so it's possible - it would mean
that they'd need to be called "safety boots" and not "cool bike bootz",
ditto other stuff, "safety oversuit" not "race leathers", probably.

but still, I'll sign it.

Poorly worded and a waste of time IMO.
Clicking on a few web thingies is not the end of the world.

out of mild interest, in what way do you think it's poorly worded? aside
from one typo that got through despite my reading it about 6 times...

Ok, so just the pre "more info" bit.

But, I disagree that once a SORN is declared it remains off road. A scrote
will not be bothered, you may sell it and not declare the sale etc etc.

I keep 2 off road, I get a reminder, I SORN them, I don't forget. I keep 2
cars and 3 bikes on the road, I get reminders, I tax them, I don't forget.
I have no issue with SORN.

Now....
people who park on yellow lines.
people who have reg plates that spell "WANKER".
people who insist on using fog lights when not foggy.

These things I do have an issue with ........
Smile

If you sell it and don't declare it, then anything the scrote does is traced
back to you... no thank you...Smile

I have no issue with SORN, but it still only needs declaring once per
vehicle/SORN period.

And each SORN period has been declared as 12months by the government Smile

A lot of people complain about SORN because the "forget" to do it and then
get upset when they are fined. Just like they "forget" they are speeding,
"forget" that there are yellow lines under their wheels etc Smile

that's not the main issue, really - I don't really mind paying 40 quid for
being so careless as to forget to renew it, seeing as I know the rules.
However, there's still no point in it needing renewing - I've not seen
anyone advance a good reason for renewing it annually, or any credible
benefit from so doing.

well, yeah. It was just a comment about nomenclature - if you want
vat-exempt 'cos it's "safety apparatus" then it's liable to have to be known
as such, not as a "go-faster race suit".

Well, any vehicle that's not taxed must by default be off-road unless
it's being used illegally, so the declaration is utterly redundant in
the first place. The current system doesn't stop someone from making a
declaration then simply using a vehicle anyway; it's just a PITA (OK,
a minor one) for the vast majority who don't take the piss. It smells
of control-freakery. IMO a government should strive to tread as
lightly as possible while maintaining a society.

I suppose there may be some sort of legal gotcha where they can
penalize for making a false declaration in addition to driving
untaxed, but that's the only 'benefit' that I can see.

>Now....
>people who insist on using fog lights when not foggy.

These should be shot. No mercy.
