A drink for those still drinking.
I am a subscriber and enjoy your magazine every month. I bought a 2003
Screaming Eagle Road King a few months ago. Like most people who ride
Harley's, I changed the exhaust. I installed the Screaming Eagle air
cleaner kit and Sampson Rolled Thunder oval slip-on mufflers. I (of course)
had to get the fuel injection re-mapped to allow for these changes. I was
going to buy Rinehart true dual exhaust but a Harley dealer told me that
they caused a major loss of midrange torque. This bike has a lot of
potential with 103 cubic inches. I like the exhaust as loud as possible. I
need midrange torque as this is the range most riding is done. I ride
two-up and travel 5 to 700 miles a day when touring. I have a set of torque
cones I could install if the exhaust needed it. Can you suggest a slip-on
or full set of pipes that would be loud as possible and not cause a
performance drop in the most important range? I see a lot of choices but I
don't want to keep buying exhaust systems until I get the right one. I plan
to later purchase a race tuner kit to dial in the bike. Right now I just
want the proper exhaust.

Sonny

I've got the Rinehart True Duals on my 95 FLHT and noticed no loss in
midrange torque. If anything the bike runs better from midrange on up. In
2002 while going to Red River I had to down shift into 4th to climb some of
the mountains out here. Last year I had no problem pulling the mountains in
5th gear an easily maintained 70 MPH. I may have lost just a tad coming out
of the hole. I highly recommend the pipes. They sound, look and perform
great!<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

It must take along time to get anywhere touring 5 miles a day! 'course I
guess the 700 mile days would make up time.

What he said! I love mine also. Just in case you're thinking of punching
the engine out to 95 or maybe 103 inches, the rep at the place I bought my
pipes told me they have different baffles available to help tune the exhaust.
You might want to look at a set.

For raw noise, Thunder cones work pretty good for carb and EFI...

Thanks for bearing with my poor editing. I also sent this to a magazine. I
thought I'd get a better response here in this newsgroup. So far I broke
even. I got a response fro bothe the magazine and the newsgroup. Again, I
apologize for the poor editing. I am not a writer. (I thought this was a
biker newsgroup).
