I suppose riding a VW trike put me somewhere on the margins of Reeky,
but I recently found something very cool (and affordable) but distinctly
beyond the fringe: a VW-based replica like this:

http://www.bugattirevue.com/revue25/faux.htm

Actually it looks a lot less showy than that; more like this one:

http://www.zaniroli.com/princesses2000/rinaldi_bugatti.fr.html

I haven't bought it yet; there are a few issues to settle such as
Air-Care (emissions inspection); where I'm going to keep it (driveway
is full of motorcycles); security; no rain protection, although I could
probably cobble together some kind of roof (at the risk of scandalizing
Bugatti purists); the cockpit is cramped and uncomfortable and you have
to climb in Dukes of Hazzard style and there's no storage space (what
did I expect on a racing car?) and the only real advantage to the thing
is that I'll get a lot of attention, except that if I keep talking about
it here I'll probably get hauled up before the Un-Reekian Activities
Committee (but I can plead that at least it has motorcycle-like wheels).

Maybe a Morgan three wheel replica ?

http://morgan3w.de/

You'd still get cramped, uncomfortable, lack of storage, Dukes
of Hazzard entry and lots of attention without having to stoop to
adding a fourth wheel. Hell, you could probably even add an
aftermarket oil leak if you tried hard.

What a beauty! I've always admired that model.

Personally, I'm holding out for a T-Rex. All I need is the 50K.

No need. Morgan three-wheelers came with them already installed.

Not to mention the termites.

I missed out on buying one of these this past summer.

I don't know if it's a blessing or not.

Google for TriKing. I drove one, 20-odd years ago. Marvellous machine.

With some it was even intentional, as in total loss lube for the
valves.

Once a year the vintage motorcycle racing club I belong to gets
together with a vintage car racing group for the "Vintage
Celebration". As payment to those of us that are willing to give our
time for corner working/flagging the car guys and the motorcycle
sidecar racers give "worker rides" during lunch break. I've gotten to
ride in most of the cars except for the single seaters, including this
Morgan.

http://www.owensracingphotos.com/pickPhoto.php?start=32

One of the rides was in a real Bugatti, a model 37 I think. The
driver had been hired to drive the car that weekend. The owner was
driving one of his other toys. We proceeded to lap the track fast
enough to be drifting in the turns, when he casually said, "For a mear
$3 million this could be yours."

The worker rides is how I got hooked into racing sidecars. After a
few rides I knew I had to try being monkey in a real race before I
died. So I put the word out that I would ride with anyone that needed
a passenger. That was in 1999 and I have been doing it since. Bought
the rig off the guy that built it when he retired in 2003.

My MG-TD had wooden floorboards - as well as a graphite throwout bearing.

Yep. Exposed valves IIRC.

I'm told that there was even a catch basin for some
kind of vital fluid(s) that it spilled. Not sure if
this was by design or accident.
