I think everybody should have a nickname, like those pilots in "Top Gun".
'Course those names should be ferocious He-Man sounding, like "Iceman" and
"Maverick", that sort of thing. Tater is ok I guess, especially if you are
from Idaho. There was this guy in the Unlimited Fighting Competition (Mark
Kerr) and the Japanese named him "The Smashing Machine" after he leveled all
of his competition over there in short order.

I think Scrape's son assigned me the name "Tater". Ask him and his son
might give you a name too.

My all-time favorite was the Beast from the East.
Speakin' of Mercedes (her real name, BTW) how about Shirley "Cha-Cha"
Muldowney? I knew a gal named Katy once that was always about 10 times
faster than any guy out on the track (ask Wes, he knows her, too.
Small world, eh?)
She always had "Katy-Did" on the back of her riding pants.
A gal that races with Eric took to calling me Digger after I broke my
wrist in Idaho. She made me a nice black T-shirt with "Digger" in huge
white block letters on the front. A few too many people thought it was
a good idea...
Honestly, tho, I think the best nicknames are when you reach the point
in your career (or long afterward) when a simple "Kenny" or "Roger" or
"Jeremy" will do.

To quote the team manager and executives at Honda about Windham, "We
have the fastest rider in the world, if he ever decides to show up a the
races." I.e., it depends on his mood in the AM.

How do these dorks know how the guy feels physically--maybe not mentally?
Maybe some days he is just faster than others and he can't help it. On a
different level, some days I medium slow, and other days I'm just slower
than hell. Not my level of try, just some days I'm better than others.
It's not always just a matter of "try". The other guys out there are pretty
quick too, and they are all trying as well.

Kenny Zahrt? LOL! Anyone else remember that old poster ad in the
back of the dirt back magazines? It showed a poster with a dude about
to loop out right at the top of a huge cliff-like hillclimb...
underneath it read: "Kenny Zahrt on the Wall of Death."
Man, I wanted that poster so bad!
I know what you mean though, Digger. It'll be hard for Carmichael
though... there was another "Ricky" who was pretty good in his own
right. Same for Jeff Ward/Jeff Stanton (though Jeff Emig wouldn't be
confused for either of the former).
....Katy-Did... that's gonna bug me all night now... I know I've
seen that somewhere before...

Uh, no. I was talking about Kenny ROberts. Ever heard of him?
You *do* know who Roger is, don't you? <G>

I wanted the Ricky Johnson ad where he was posed as Rodin's "The
Thinker" with nothin' on but a pair of Fox boots and a contemplative
look on his face. Damn, that guy was built. I'd pay good money for one
of those. (Are you listening, Mr Arnett?)

Jeff Ward=Wardy. Remember how he'd roll off the back side of a jump on
his rear wheel? We'd call those "Wardy's." I always liked him because
he was short like me. I used to think his white gear was cool,
too...blech! He's much more of a winner than Stanton, I think. Hell,
he's been a winner at every level of racing he's ever attempted, all
his life. Indy cars, fer cryin' out loud! He's *still*
taking home hardware! He'll be Wheelchair Champion at the Shady Grove
Home for Retired Zillionaire MX Stars some day.

Reed is for real in SX where Windham has even said himself that he's
more of a MX rider. That time off Windham took sure paid off for him
tho.
On the nic subject, if I here RC call Nathan Ramsey Nate Dog 1 more
