Enter "Top Ten Reasons Why Harley Riders Don't Wave Back" as a Google
groups search term... sort results by date... have a look at the older
ones. Turns out someone with the nick of "Big Jon" posted the
following to uk.rec.motorcycles in 1998:

Do you need a laxative to help you pass that hook, or will you be right
getting rid of it naturally? You've swallowed it too far for it to be able
to come back up.

In America earlier this year it was really odd. I was on a 600 Yamaha bike and
had my girlfriend on the back. Every sportsbike I saw (which wasn't many) I
didn't get the nod back from. Guys on full on choppers with ape hangers were
the first one however to give me the enthusiastic wave and big smile. Exact
opposite of here. Generally the chopper guys were also the ones doing 100+
miles an hour through traffic and I was struggling to keep up with.
