I wonder why they've banned MCs. They have far less impact on the
environment and traffic density than cages. Easier to park and
cheaper to ride (if you want to, that is).

Did the region of Guang Zhou started a new factory manufacturing
cars and this is the chinese equivalent of our western promotion?

hmm, environmental impact. I think that is two-sided. There is no
cathalysators, the smaller "mopeds" doublestrokes is worse than a car.

But generally i follow your point. They could make some norms on what the
outlet is allowed for riding in city zones, as they do in Germany right
now. And then the old bikes are not allowed, but newer and more
environmentally correct are. (the same for lunchboxes)

On the traffical point, yes, more bikes in city centres. How many cars
have more than 1 rider? But it demands a great investment in public
transport. And the politics around the globe is seldom involved in this,
unless it is a prestige project

Probably yes. but what about all the small chinesebikes wee see in
europe? (or maybe it is mainly in heavytaxed countries)

Crime. They had lots of robberies where the bandits got away on bikes and the
cops in cages couldn't keep up in the heavy traffic. So rather than put cops on
bikes, they banned bikes. You can do that when the government doesn't answer to
the people and there is no redress of grievance.

People can gripe all they want about how bad our country is, but you'll never
see that here. Maybe we ain't so bad off after all.

In Colombia, all riders have to wear an orange jerkin with the
registration number of the bike on it in large reflective letters. The
registration number has to be painted on the back of the rider's helmet,
as well. Pillions, too.

Naturally, the first time I saw this, I asked why. It seems that a
AK47-armed gunman, riding shotgun (to coin a phrase) on a small
motorcycle used to be the assassin's modus operandi. So the government
decided to make it easier to identify bikers.

Do the Chinese have emission standards for cars?

I think the article made that clear. The local
government is forcing the local population to
use its public transporation system. And we
can clearly assume it is a worse choice for them
or the population would voluntarily choose it.

Meanwhile, here on the West Coast the Powers That Be are building
more Skytrain trackage -- but the new passenger cars are being made
in Korea (and incompatible with existing trains).

It's not like anyone in Canada knows how to build a subway car.

Isn't it sort of stupid? I mean - the robberies are already banned by
law but still get commited. If they ban the bikes, the criminals still
can go by bike. Or do they think that a criminal willing to rob a
place will actually be stopped from using a bike just because it's
unlawful? Or do i miss something here?

I don't know what the coutry is but i'm sure that, as with any
country in the world, there are good things and bad things there.
I'm glad you like where you live. It's always a plus. Wink
