I've had it with my current insurance provider. After being with them for
all of my insurance needs for 30 years, the high prices & lack of
responsiveness have me shopping for someone new.

I want to move the entire fleet of vehicles, and probably my
homeowners as well. I recall some insurers are less than enthusiastic
about motorcycles. Can anyone help with recommendations on
competetive providors for motorcycle insurance so that I can
shorten the list of companies to look at?

Jeff,
I had liability on my XR600 last year for $75.oo / year... It
expired first of this month... Thought I would try Farmers, who I have
all my other vehicles with, and I was surprised... $170.oo / 6 months...
I asked them if this was correct... They said it was.. Liability only..
I called Progressive and set it up for liability only, like I had last
year $78.oo and added under-insured and un-insured motorist to the
policy... Brought it up to $110.oo / year... No hassles with
Progressive.. They knew what an XR600R was.. They asked questions that
were relevant to "my" bike.. That is the only experience I have...
Hope it helps...

With my recent street bike purchase I did some shopping around. For
liability insurance Progressive was cheapest by about $150/year. For
full coverage my current provider, Nationwide, gave me the best rate.
They were about $200 cheaper than Progressive. The only problem with
Nationwide was they couldn't find a 919 in their list of bikes, turns
out it was listed at a CB900F4. I had my CRF450 insured with them as
well. State Farm laughed at insuring a motorcycle but they sure wanted
my auto and homeowners. I checked Geico as well but their rates were
high. When I was shopping for homeowners the best rate I found was the
Farm Bureau. I don't remember the exact numbers but I do remember they
were about half of what Nationwide offered.

I had Progressive but switched to Dairyland because they were nearly 3
times cheaper.

2001 DRZ400S Liability only $44/yr

2005 VT750C Full coverage $160/yr

Norman-I've only had one headon

2004 CRF230-uninsured headon/its broke

2001 DRZ400s

2005 VT750C

might i suggest USAA if you're military or related to military folks.
they may not be the cheapest but their coverage & service is very
good. With USAA you don't have to worry the CEO will take the profits
and use them to push legislation diametrically opposed to our sport.

Jeff,

I run my company and my home/personal through State Farm. A little higher
than most. But when I need help, they are there. I think that may be the
relationship with the agent though. When my guys had accidents in the
company trucks, I just picked up the phone and called them. They did the
rest. All the paper filings and everything. I think it was worth the xtra
cost.

Ditto on the Progressive for the bike $75 a year for my CRF450. I

It seems Bucky only made it 38 years on this planet.

I wonder what the average lifespan of a male in the late 1800's was.

If you have anybody who has served for our freedom in your family, check out

I'm not sure how they do on the cheepo scale, but when you actually need
what you paid for they come through like you paid for it.

I was curious about what it would cost to put minimum liability on my
unridden-for-a-long-time Suzuki 550 street bike. Filled in an online form (at
the end, after hitting SEND, it told me it was going to fax my info to a LOT
of local insurance brokers --- GAAAAAHHHHH!). I thought I had canceled my
request, but I got one response this morning -- it costs half of what it costs
me to put 100-300-50 insurance on my pickup. What a ripoff.

Cheers,
Bev

It seems that all insurance companies are increasing their rates for older
vintage bikes. Last year I was charged $ 75.00 per year ($ 150.00 total)
from Progressive to cover my 1972 Honda CB350 and 1970 Yamaha CT1. Now this
year they want $ 135.00 for each bike. When I asked them why, I was told
they now considered these two bikes classics and that classics are always
charged more. I did get a quote from Geico for $ 97.00 for each bike which
is who I am switching to.

Personally, I consider this robbery as I only have minimum liability and put
less than 2000 miles per year on both bikes together.

Did you ask for an explanation? I can see paying more if you want collision,
but liability only? Maybe old bikes, like old cars, are heavy and solid
enough to do more damage.

Bastard wanted $240/year, but he didn't split out the cost for uninsured
motorist/ medical. All insurance costs more in California Sad
