Drinks to all and hope everyone is having a great Labor Day weekend.
It's raining like hell here in South Jersey - hope it heads out fast
because I'm going to the Hawg Ridin' Fools Party tomorrow. Write up to
follow.

OK - here's the question. I have a 2003 FXDWG - now 95" at 91 hp and
96 ft/lbs torque. I'm looking at installing a Carlini Torque Arm.
Anyone have any experience specifically with a Wide Glide? Are they
worthwhile? Also looking at the Kuryakyn Fork Brace or Fork Skins to
stabilize the front end a little. Comments appreciated - good or bad.

Thanks in advance and have another. I'm gonna open up a cold one and
watch a little College Football 'til this rain stops.

I have one on mine, and it was an easy install. The Evo transmission
is only connected to the engine through the primary case. Nothing
connects them together on the right side. Simple geometry tells you it
could be better, and needs to be with high torque applications. I'm
making about 110 ft/lb's or so.
That being said, realize that you don't have an Evo engine! Your
Twin Cam has a much better trans/engine mount. The two parts are
actually bolted together both left and right. You won't find a torque
arm that fits your engine, because it won't ever need one.

I also have the fork brace on mine. I believe it is a KA, but don't
remember off the top of my head, and I'm currently too lazy to walk out
and look. In any case, I can't say if it made a difference or not. I
never noticed any. But, again, simple geometry makes it look like a
stronger assembly. Does that matter? Maybe.

Not necessary and won't fit, the torque arm is specifically for
_Evolution_ big twins. The Twin Cam motor in your '03 has an improved
transmission-to-motor mounting system that eliminates the problem
addressed by the Carlini brace.

Wasn't looking for the "cool effect". Was looking for a little advise
- whether needed or not. Apparently it's not only not needed, but
since it's not an Evo it can't be used.

Smart ass.

FlyerFan Jim asks about Torque Arms and fork braces...

First, applause for being concerned about engine durability mods
following performance mods, shows good thinking, that. But as you've
already been so kindly <cough cough> informed, it's not needed this
time.

Second, you asked about fork braces, and here I'm just going to be
lazy, no excuses. I'm pasting a reply I posted a while ago:

Philip Nasadowski offers free beer for a couple of questions (always a
good deal 'cause you can make something up if ya have too<g>):

Couple of options here. You could go with the HD/KuryAykin brace, a
three piece light weight jobby, or the CCE/Chirpin' Seagull "race
brace," (same item, two different names/prices) a real solid two piece
item. The HD/KA one runs around $100, the CCE/SE runs around $180 or
so. On the HD/KA one: Pro- lighter weight, less unsprung weight (a
good thing, of course). Con: Three piece design is probably (IMHO) a
bit more flexible (a bad thing). On the CCE/SE one: Pro: Heavy duty
enough to straighten out the front of your 4X4, won't twist a bit.
Con: You guessed it, it's a heavy
bugger. Those are your options. There's also a company out there
called "Super Brace," but I don't know squat about them, other than
they'll carve it up real pretty for you (ball milled flames, etc.) and
they cost a fair bit.

Skins...)
