"Police are at a loss to explain a 47 per cent increase in the number of women
killed on Victoria's roads this year compared with the same period in 2003.

"The Victorian road toll is up only 4 per cent.

"Superintendent Keogh said it was too early to determine if the jump was an
anomaly, or the beginning of a trend, but he warned that mobile phones were an
increasing safety issue.

"The RACV's head of public policy, Ken Ogden said he also had no explanation
for the increase in the number of female fatalities this year, but said issues
such as mobile phones and text messaging could be factors."

Later on the in same article, someone says with perfect sense that the
focus on fatalities means you get numbers too small to get useful
information from, and they should be looking at serious injury crashes
as well. And if you do *that* the numbers look quite different...
