Archived from groups: aus>motorcycles (more info?)

80% of the population will need to be given blood in their lifetime yet only 3%
of Australians donate blood.

Anybody wishing to donate blood on Sunday and have that donation count towards
the Summer Blood Challenge (Melbourne motorcyclists v Rest Of Australia) we are
meeting at:
Southbank Blood Centre Cnr Kavanagh and Balston Streets (Melways 43 G11) at
10:00AM on Sunday 29/2/04

All I ask is that you drop me a quick line at: bloodchallenge DeleteThis @pobox.com so I can
give the Blood Bank approximate numbers that might be attending.

If you aren't able to donate for whatever reason please consider coming in
anyway to lend moral support to any first time donors Smile

cheers

Tony

I just called the blood bank. Apparently the MRA is sitting on 103 donations
about 30 short of the number one spot. The defence department has made a
huge effort recently and may come though as the dark horse. Figures as at
10/02/04. The Southbank blood bank is open on Sunday from 9:30 am - 11:30
am. They seem to be pretty full on Sunday as this the last week of the
challenge. Many appointments are available today, Friday. If you rock up on
Sunday without an appointment they say you are more than welcome to but you
may have wait a while. When donating you have a needle in your arm for about
10 mins. They say to eat well and drink lots of water on the morning of the
donation as this aids the flow of blood and therefore the ease of the
donation. <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.arcbs.redcross.org.au/" target="_blank">http://www.arcbs.redcross.org.au/</a>

How do you get them to record your donation? I donate regularly -- but have
never seen any forms, posters etc at Bourke St. And when does it end?

There are tick-the-box forms and a box in the donor cafeteria, at least in the
Southbank BB. I'd be very suprised if the Bourke St BB didnt have similar.

Challenge ended on Sunday.

Yep.

I try to organise a group ride to the BB every year but responses to posts
announcing them in this newsgroup and other forums are usually restricted to the
sound of crickets chirping in the background Smile
