Hi

I have some ideas about lighting on my scoot so grab a drink and tell
me what you think of them.

I've saw a few scoots last summer with the modulating headlight during
daylight hours on both bright and dark days. I thought it made them
much more visible to me. They caught my eye a lot sooner than a
normal scoot headlight does. I was thinking about installing one.

I also have seen, in the catalogues, a unit that makes the turn
signals into brake lights. Seems like a good feature

I've also been toying with the idea of a strobe style tail light/
brake light unit. Another seemingly good idea.

I have been about giving some thought to putting a new taller sissy
bar on and was looking at installing one of the small rectangular led
stoplights at the top of it.

So, have another one, on me of course, and let me know what you think.

I seem to recall a case not long ago (I don't have a link to source), in
which a woman pulled out in front of a rider from a side street. He hit
her car and died. She was not at fault because due to his modulating
headlight she could not judge his distance nor speed correctly.

Most states allow the modulating headlight but do not permit them at night.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of the accident. Be interesting to find out if
an appeal was made.

It would have to have a switch added so it could be turned off for
night riding. Like you said, most states if not all, don't allow it
to be used at night.

Thanks

BP's got some lights mounted on his engine guards, very visible. Don't
think they'll work with the lowers on my Ultra Classic.

Bingo. I run with MoCo driving lights on the crash bar. I also
switched out all my rear red lights to bright LEDs. It was expensive
but my lights really "pop" when they go on. I also switched to the
HID headlight. During the day I run with the high beam on since the
HID is so directional.

I like the Hella lights, we started putting them on our Kawa cop bikes a few
years ago......then continued with them when we moved to the Honda ST1300's.

IMHO, add lights to help *you* see better.

Don't expect more lights on your bike to make some brain dead cager
with a stereo booming more dBs than your horn and texting on their
cell phone to see you coming.

If you want to survive, develop ESP and don't ride like you have the
right of way.

Even if you have some bullshit idea you do.

I'm using a "code E" headlight reflector with a regular h4 bulb ,
along with a pair of H 7616 sealed beam lamps in the stock passing lamp
cans . These lamps are also used as small aircraft landing lights , and
they throw a tight beam way out there . Be careful how they're aimed !
The rear is well lit , bagger style , but you're looking for a Sportster
cure ...
Go to your local dealer and see if he has some take-off FRONT
turnsigs , or buy some aftermarket . They mount the same way the rears
do , just a different base . These use a dual filament bulb , you can
put red lenses on them and triple your rear running lamps by hooking
them in with the taillight . The flashing brake lamps get my attention
.... if I wasn't lit up like a whorehouse on wheels I would consider one
for my bike .

Snag , all lit up .

I had come to that conclusion a very long time ago. I did want to see
what other people had to say on the subject.

I am going to change the rear turn signals to work as brake lights and
put bright led units in the turn and brake system.

Grew out of ideas like that long ago.

I'm looking for small bullet lights. Maybe 3-3 1/2" to mount below
the headlight. Like to find some that are reasonably priced and that
can handle a 65 to90 watt bulb. That should work OK off the stock
high beam switch if I use a relay. Have to keep em small so they
don't look too out of place on my girly bike. <g>

Would even consider changing out the stock headlight housing if I
could find something I like.
