I'm going to upgrade the memory in my lapdog (Dell inspiron 1300).

Just wondering, are the sticks the same (physical) size as the ones in
a PC, or do I need to find specific ones?

I've got a couple of 512MBs if you want them but I'm in Belgium until
the weekend.

They're generally a different size. Desktop sticks are long and thin ish
[1], laptop ram is a bit more square [2].

Many Dell systems use proprietary ram, but have a look here for good
information www.crucial.com

[1] and [2] Technical Terms. Wink

Dunno if this applies to the 1300, but my Inspiron 2650 has 1 x 256 stick
and space for another 256 somewhere inside. Trouble is, the one inside is
unreachable as far as I can see, and Dell says it's got to go back to them
to upgrade it. I've tried, obviously, but I couldn't see any way to get to
the inside memory slot without breaking the case into little bits. Another
256 would make a hell of a difference, but by now I CBA and will wait until
I need to replace the whole thing. I tried a 512 stick in the
"user-accessible" slot, but no joy.

Looking at the manual, it looks pretty much straightforward, both
slots user-friendly and will take a 1GB stick in each. I'm prolly
going to stick a gig in the spare slot.
