Does anyone know what the function of this diaphragm/valve is? There is one
per carb, on the side and I would need to seperate the carbs to check # 2,
3, 4. If----I knew what they did I could determine if they were working
properly without having to go to all the additional time and expense to
visually inspect them. I have the carbs off to check float height, jets,
needles, screws etc,. while seeking to correct a mid throttle lean
condition. I have the factory Homda manual and they don't mention it. (1979
Honda 750 LTD). I want to get the machine on the road.
Thanks. Jake >> Stay informed about: Keihin CV's air cut-off valve |

Summarized from the Honda Common Service Manual (the part number on
mine, an old copy, is 61CM000):
When the throttle is being closed and engine braking applied, the
fuel mixture leans out, and backfiring may occur. To prevent
this, the air cut-off valve closes the air passage to the slow jet
and temporarily richens the mixture. With the throttle closed
and vacuum in the main bore increasess, the diaphragm in the air
cut-off valve closes the air passage. A decrease in vacuum then
re-opens the passage.

Thanks Dan!
That is good news because I do not see how that valve could contribute to my
"leaness". So I will not seperate the carbs which required removing the
staked screws retaining the choke butterflies to the common shaft. I have
quite a collection of service manuals but none addressing/describing this
valve. Thank you for taking the time to help out a fellow wrench.
Jake.

If the diaphragms have holes in them could that cause a vacuum leak? Could
it prevent the slides from opening all the way?

I'm thinking the diaphragms are intact.
Let you know soon,
