Anyone know what I can expect to pay for el-cheapo,
bottom-of-the-barrel MC insurance in the Seattle area? I'm 33, male,
and have a reasonably clean driving record (but that's the catch --
it's driving, and I'm a new-ish rider).
Not looking for exact figures of course, just curious if anyone has a
ballpark idea? >> Stay informed about: Insurance? |

Nope, It depends a great deal on if you are riding a 70's vintage jap bike
or a $70,000 custome/Boss Hoss.
Needless to say the premiums would be vastly different for these two bikes
no matter what other variables would be involved.
I ride a 78' GL1000 and a KZ550, liability converages only at $400 per
year.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Insurance? |

Dunno, I'm with Geico. It's cheap enough fo rme, I'm NOT in a hurry as they
haven't made any major rate hikes in ages for me.

Goto progressive.com and get a online quote. I am getting insurance from
them for $424 a year, full coverage with 250 deductible. This is on a honda
shadow 600.

I've got to disagree. If something happens, you don't want them having
any reason to deny a claim. I've always found honesty is the best
policy. I just got a quote (NM) from Progressive for $757 a year for
full coverage on an o4 Vulcan Classic 1500. I'm waiting on a quote from
Geico. I don't much like Progressive because of some stupid policies
they have. That price is for a 4 year rider with one major no fault
accident. Right now, I've got Dairyland on my wreck that I had paid $87
for a year of liability only.

I wasn't even asked about my experience. Went into my local progressive
office, said the online quote was $414, after a little more coverage it went
up to $424 a year all done in about 5 minutes no questions asked. I really
liked that. I've had my motorcycle license for about 13 years, ever since I
was about 18 so that may have popped up somewhere not sure and maybe that
was the reason for lack of questions.

Go to progressive.com and get quotes for a variety of bikes / years. It is
a tedious process (but better than Geico), you'll be amazed at the rates.
Rates go from a low $225 to $800 depending on bike year (2002-2004). Same
bike different year (older) will be30% less than newer year.
Follow up with call to 800 number to verify. They will even know you went
on-line and always matched the on-line quote.
YMMV,

Geico told me they wouldn't insure a person who hasn't had more than 3 years
riding experience. Actually sent me a thanks but no thanks letter in the
mail.
To the OP, I've been insurance shopping as well. I've been getting quotes
on a 2004 Gixxer 750. Prices rage from $1400 to $7000. I have a clean
driving record but live in Los Angeles.

Just got an e-mailed quote from Farmers 04 Gixxer 750 $2074, Kawasaki ZX10R
$4271 for the year if I insure the bike only. If I move my car over the
rates drop to $524 for the Gixxer and $756 for the liter bikes. Rates adjust
for the CC's. I wonder how much auto is through them?

Nah, technically it would be extortion, not blackmail. Fuck 'em and
insure through Dairyland. I was very pleased with their service when I
got killed near Atlanta in 9-2000.

I wouldn't deal with GEEKO for any reason after the shit they gave me.
As I was moving to SC from GA where I had Dairyland, and Dairyland was
too much in SC, I made the mistake of calling GEEKO. The CUNTry music
fan that I talked to (odd, you don't see many black country music fans)
told me they would not issue anything but liability on a "high
performance sport-bike like my SV650 standard." I asked what they would
issue comp and collision on. GS500, EX500, CB250, etc. She knew that I
was an older homeowner, 30 years experience, zero tickets AND that I was
an MSF instructor. She literally did everything she could to get me to
go elsewhere. I politely told her that I take matters such as this very
seriously and I tend to involve myself in different levels of righting
this type of wrongs. I asked for the name of the company president, her
boss and the mailing address. Her tone changed dramatically, you
would have thought someone else took over the call. Anyway, I wrote a
very polite but thorough letter and <surprise> never heard a word back
from any of the pricks. And they still advertise in SC moto rags.
