| Ok, so I'm looking to get an SV1000S but I know that my current insurance
provider, Nationwide, will not insure the bike as it's on their "hit list".
Does anyone have any recommendations for sportbike friendly insurance
companies? Progessive? Allstate? Geico?

You won't beat State Farm. They only go by cc's. In most area's you
do need to insure a car with them before they'll take on your bike.
Their car rates are very reasonable too.
Progressive and Geico are for lemmings who basically go with whatever
is advertised the most on TV during Jerry Springer episodes...they'll
pay through the roof and feel they're getting a deal.
On the other hand, Progressive and Geico are great for squids with
tons of tickets and accidents...no matter how big a loser you are
they'll insure you...at a price!

I've got to concur on the State Farm recommendation. They've always been
able to beat any other quote I've ever gotten. You have to have your car
insurance with them as well I believe, but even when I get quotes from other
places by transferring the car too, they've never been beaten.

Gotcha. Well I ain't no squid and I have a clean riding record. Progressive
gave me a quote of $878/yr. Geico won't insure me cause I live in Delaware.
So, I'll give State Farm a try. Hopefully, they'll be good to me.

Progressive has given me a better deal than anyone else. Can't use
State Farm, as they don't come close with the car/home insurance. And
knowing my luck, as soon as I moved all my other policies to them they
would change the way they handle motorcycles and want ~3 grand a year
for full coverage on the busa as well. Progressive is quite reasonable
on the rest of the bikes, it's just the bling bike for which they want a
premium.

If you don't mind me asking, what is Progressive charging you a year
to insure your Busa?
For fun I just ran a quote on mine through Progressive. Full coverage
on the Busa ALONE would cost me about $2,847 a year. That's about
$1,500 MORE a year than what I'm paying through State Farm for my
Busa, 1 car and my house COMBINED.
Through State Farm I'm paying $349 a year for full coverage
300/300/100, uninsured, underinsured (no winter layover). $1000
deductible. If I wanted $250 deductible it would have upped the rate
to $491 a year.
Just for more fun I ran another quote for the '79 CX500 Custom I used
to own. For the past 10 years I paid $50 a year for liability only on
that bike until the day I sold it. I think that was through Guide
One.
Exact same liability coverage, Progressive just quoted me $342 a year!
For $7 bucks more I'm getting full coverage on a 2004 Hayabusa

They quoted me over 3 grand for full coverage. Liability only is
running me a couple hundred per yer.

That is a good rate.

I pay 42 dollars per yer for liability for my '81 GS450S, ~60 for my '82
GS850L.
State Farm's rates on home/auto do not compare with what I currently
have, and, as I say, with my luck they would change their motorcycle
rates the week after I moved everything.
Every other insurance company I talked to "just said no" when I asked
about the busa. Time to sell it and buy 3 more SVs.
