If you're using smaller sockets, probably not a big deal. Esecially if
you're talking about a smaller 3/8 drive impact wrench.
Get up around 3/4 inch with a decently strong impact wrench, and you
can get some good shrapenal going on.

Impact sockets are stronger. I, personally, wouldn't bother
replacing your current ones unless you actually see one cracking
or breaking. But that's me.

I have seen regular ones crack before. I've even broken a few using
cheater bars, etc. But I wouldn't worry about it either unless you
start cracking a few. I've even seen some cheap impact sockets crack. >> Stay informed about: Impact Wrench socket set vs. regular sockets... WTF???? |

Look at the wall thickness of the impact sockets compared to regular
sockets. Much thicker and often made of hardened steel. You haven't lived
until you have a regular socket grenade at the end of an impact wrench. >> Stay informed about: Impact Wrench socket set vs. regular sockets... WTF???? |

From what a Snap On dealer told me, the main difference is the lack of
chrome plating. Regular sockets have a surface that is too hard and
will deform the tip of the impact gun. After a while, sockets won't
stay put and will fall off if you tilt the nose down.
I'm too cheap to have two sets, so I use an impact-rated short
extension on the gun, and then put the regular socket on the
extension. >> Stay informed about: Impact Wrench socket set vs. regular sockets... WTF???? |

I've got one of those... and I've seen several. >> Stay informed about: Impact Wrench socket set vs. regular sockets... WTF???? |

We've always had separate impact sockets (most garage-sale impact
wrenches come with sockets), and they all have 6 points rather than 12.
And speaking of strength, I bought some nice-looking gray open-end
wrenches at Harbor Freight. The first time I tried to use one (car
oil-pan plug) it broke. Cheap is cheap, but I didn't realize they were
THAT cheap.

I did get a cheapshit pair of safety wire pliers at HF. They're
still functional, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend them.
