David, didn't you have a description of how to carry tools in your airbox?
The KTM interior is absolutely cavernous, and it was pointed out that I
should move some of my tool storage in there. I'm thinking of making a
holder for my tube, tire irons, and tow strap to get it off the front end of
the bike. The airbox is so damn easy to get into that it makes sense to
put some of my stuff here where the mass is low & centralized.

I carry the C02 cartridges and tire irons in the front fenderbag, with
a 21" tube, a "SecondWind" pump, a Moose Tow Strap (thanks Jim),a
space blanket, waterproof matches and a little can of WD-40.
I use the airbox for the emergency two-stroke oil supply (also
emergency bar oil supply).

I hate to break in on this exchange between you and your "friend", I
guess if you tell a story enough times, even the story teller begins
to believe...
The nice thing about the airbox is the three molded-in studs, makes it
easy to mount stuff in there. I need to put my tool kit on a serious
weight reduction plan, might be time to revisit the tools in the
airbox thing.

I was thinking a complete detailed list of what you carry could come
in very handy for "others" in considering what they shoud carry.

Jeff,

Thanks Charles & Keith. Both very good ideas. I think I can easily
fabricate something along those lines. I'm going to do some measurements,
then see if my local metal supply place has extruded rectangular aluminum. I
can braze the tabs in place.
I'm in the process of putting together a new tool kit. One of the things
I've always wanted on the bike is a complete socket set, so I picked up a
1/4" drive set & small ratchet. With the myriad of recessed 6 & 8mm
fasteners, the sockets are pretty much required. I'm gonna have to see how
much I can fit in the airbox.
I already picked up a $40 wolfman rear tool kit, but mounting on the pointy
rear fender is turning into a PITA.
