I expect that the distributors tried to find a dealer and most said "no,
we can't be bothered".

Being a dealer doesn't just mean getting a sign painted. You usually
ahve to buy floor stock and spares, and you have to believe you'll sell
enough of them at a decent margin to make it worthwhile.

A dealer who already has say a Suzuki franchise isn't going to sell
Hyosung. Neither will a Honda dealer. Why sell a direct competitor to
your higher margin bikes that means you have to cut prices on them?

Probably no one with a Jap franchise will, either because of upfront
money and margin, or because the distributor has a quiet word...

So the ones who will take it up will be small shops. Maybe currently
doing a European brand, or no brand at all. And a small shop *always*
has rumours about being dubious, because human nature says someone's
sure they've been ripped off. And because the small shops look seedy
as looking flash is dead money as far as they are concerned, then the
dodgy name has more of a chance of sticking.

Some places are a bit dodgy of course. I have in mind a couple of
Adelaide shops that went through several dealership agreements and lost
them because of problems. Mainly too greedy, taking on more than they
could manage, and cutting corners in the service dept.

Apparently regular pulling and stretching helps.
Ask Moike and Smee, I believe they have the relevant experience.

Hi Zebee,
The markup on Jap bikes has always been 17% to 19% here.
Hyosung XRX125 cost the dealers $3800 and were retailing at $4500 but
now with the Kazuma and a few others selling cheaper, the Hyosung are
retailed at $3500 and I believe they cost dealers about $2800. Far better
markup than the Jap bikes.

well done, ZB, you knocked it right on the head

the shop thats sells them here in perth is a s/h only bikeshop - so new
bikes , they've taken on the hyosung for some reason and they report they
are selling a few of the 250 both the upright and the cruiser model to
people who have just got their 250 licence and want a new bike and baulk at
paying the new jap prices and perhpas don't have a mind set yet on the
prestige and power bikes.

there have been some less then complimentry remarks on the quality of after
sales service, servicing of bikes and also quality of some bike stop stop
when put out on the show room.

i think that given time the koreans will make and sell decent bikes given
time - loook at how people larfed when hyundai came on to the car markets in
the late 90's. they'll do the same with the bike market. perhaps next step
for them would be a 600cc sports bike or make say 750cc sport tours thingy.

hey James... you've abandoned the slagging-off-NZ thread above???

I guess you're too busy watching the NZ Olympic Team struggling for Bronze,
Bronze, Bronze...

I'm very pleased with our NZ team so far Paul.
I've been cheering for NZ and the Aussies as well.
Proud of them both really.

Yep, there's the restricted (34hp) version of the Peg in Europe.
2 dished metal plates reduce the air-intake to about 1/2 diameter, the
"restriction"kit comes with approval number and all...
can be fitted/removed by any half-decent backyard-monkey within 30 mins, no
other mods needed.
No exhaust-restrictor, no fancy carb-needlework, no re-chipping, nothing at
all, it's a real joke.
Dealer-price for parts is $290, selling on German Ebay with certificatio for
$8-10.
Worth about $1 for 2 wall-coverplates at the Plumbing Store and 10mins to
drill them out/ cutting to size.

cheers

Peter Stevens is currently selling new SV650SK's for $8990..
I know that's the faired model and I don't know if they are
doing anything similar for unfaired models but, even so, I know
if I was deciding between the two I'd go the SV.

Now, if the Comet was a grand cheaper again and they fixed their
(what I hear are) dodgy brakes in the wet...
