Dunno. My understanding is that there are a couple of bikes that are so
damn borderline it's not funny, but I'm not sure about the road-legal
(as in no illegally loud pipes) that are required to make them very
illegal. On the 32 to 70HP range being quoted

Hi Marty, Who is *we* or are *you* just more comfortable talking from
within a group perspective, where your misinformation can be spread
and blamed, on others with their heads in the same sand pit?
I don't know about Hyundai, but if you believe you have genuine information
contrary to my expressed opinions, I'd like to debate the matter logically.
Who knows we might both learn something, and our fellow bikers might
be better informed about the future of our sport. (or whatever you like to
call it) Even the most prolific knockers who post here will be affected
if my predictions are correct.

Remember though that Suzuki has had decades of experience and Hyosung
can only get better.

Hi again Zebee,
Now we seem to be getting into some cool information, and it's
exactly what I'd hoped for. The current situation is more competitive
and will have resultant slanging matches and lies when many existing
manufacturers and resellers try to keep their market share, and realise
there's no other cost effective way, brcause in truth, the quality of most
Korean and Chinese made bikes is right up with the best.
Consumers, (you and me) will benefit with the far cheaper prices,
but will have trouble selling used bikes. Tradein prices will hit the floor.
It's really great to debate with people like you, who know the facts.

Depends on what is being bought.
In the 1950s it was cheap transport. You bought a bike because cars
were expensive and hard to get.
Then along came cheaper cars - Morris Minors, later minis, in Oz there
were locally produced Holdens - and you didn't have to put up with the
inconvenience of a bike and sidecar to pull the family about.
So bikes began their new role as a toy.
And that's what they are now, a toy. The vast majority are bought the
way all adult toys are bought, as much about looks and status as what
they are like to ride.
Which is why Harley sell heaps of bikes compared to the Japanese
imitation, they still win in the status stakes. Which is more important
to a lot of people than price, build quality, horsepower etc.
The non-cruiser market is still status driven, it's just that the status
markers are different. Race wins, horsepower figures, and high tech
whatsits (as long as they aren't *too* high tech) are what sell bikes.
The Korean bikes might be cheaper, they might be sorta close in
power/weight, but the bod who turns up on one *knows* they are going to
lose in the status stakes. BEcause they have a cheap imitation that
isn't quite as fast, hasn't won races. But importantly is a cheap
imitation.
To sell to the sportbike market, they will have to win races, or find
some other way to shed that "cheap imitation" image.
The Koreans might do better in the scooter market, which is just as
status conscious but more open to style rather than wanting the extra
half horsepower.
OR else they can try the MuZ route - top class name brand bits to try
and up the status level. But you can't do that on the cheap.
My guess is they'll try for the learner who isn't quite as clear on
what's low status and what's not, and hope to keep them on a Hyosung
when they outgrow their VTR205 copy. But by that stage, the learner
will have been around enough to know what's hot and what's not. And with
a loan from the bank they can have a high status bike.
But if they sponsor LAM rider training, and generally do all they can to
get newer and less status conscious riders on the bikes, they might get
a small percentage of the market. They won't be a huge threat though
until they can find a better reason than price as to why someone should
buy their toy instead of the more shiny one.
Zebee
- who goes the "old but expensive when new" status route. But who
hasn't got the "shiny" part sorted yet...<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Hyosung GT650 vs Suzuki SV650 |

Hi Nev,
I'm an *experienced rider* and I'm happy to admit to owning whatever
bike I've ever owned. I guess it's depth of character and the willingness
to laugh at one's own mistakes before moving on. We've all owned
*learner* bikes, and shouldn't be worried about admitting that.
If you want to be seen as one tough he man biker, I can understand
your statement, but isn't it better to be down to earth honest, like
a real ozzie tough guy who only want's to help his mates, and to hell
with what anyone else might think of him. I reckon most of the posters
here are genuine and decent, but this preoccupation with not wanting
to look like a *girl* often get's in the way.

Pfft. Experienced riders don't need 1200cc ego-extenders to potter around
