K, Im not a small boy.. I already know what most people are goin to say.. CRUISER CRUISER!! And im goin to say no... lol I want a sportbike, I have ridden dirtbikes for some time but have never owned a street bike. I want a CBR 1000 RR. Problem is there hard to come by here where i live, Used that is.. So, For someone that is around 6'2 280 lbs, Would it be reasonable to get a 750 or 1000 cc bike for a starter?

This particular usenet group doesn't tend to be populated by
idiots....and some of us resemble the pillsberry doughboy as much as
any other. Why would we say such a thing?

Well, now THAT is pretty stupid.

There is no 750 or 1000cc sportbike as a starter bike that is
reasonable. I recommend you rethink your position.

The OP doesn't state his age. I suspect that when he gets the insurance
quote on a litre bike he will re-think his position.

Most people I know don't give thought to calling their insurance agency for
a quote until *after* they have bought the bike....

Which is why its easy to buy low mileage, barely used sportbikes
sometimes. Talk about taking a bath over a silly booboo. Just renewed
my insurance, $400/year for 3 of them, but I don't carry full coverage
on the couch. If I did, my ins. company wants $1000/year, I think the
GSX in the model series really screws things up, they really don't
consider it a touring bike.

Since you've never ridden before the size isn't so important in that most
street bikes are going to have more power than you're used to. I wouldn't
suggest a 1000cc anything as a first bike. General rule of thumb round here
is start off with a 500-600cc, used bike with minimal plastic as that stiff
gets expensive to replace when damaged. Get some experience on one of these
for a while then you can move up.

Back when I started was on a Honda 50. It teaches you to watch the
traffic as there is no way to outrun it. Then a Honda 160 which I rode
from California to Alabama,, then bored it out the 175, then a CB450,
then gave up for years, then a moped, then a 360 that vibrated so much I
was scared to ride it, then a V45 with a chopped seat so my feet could
touch the ground. Now working on a pair of GS650GL to get them running
but they may be too tall.
