My buddy Calvin, just put one in his son's crf250r, (and I just ordered
one) and the darn thing won't start when hot. Valves are in spec
(reshimed) and the degree marks line up too! I caught hot cams on TT and
it sounds like a bad cam (not that uncommon). Stock jetting, plug is
clean, but the pipe is grey, not dark. When it runs it hauls butt! Any
ideas before we put the stock cam back in and reshim! We are taking the
kids to Washougal thursday. No time for a replacement!

If the exhaust is grey now, and was darker before, then it sounds like the
jetting is too lean now.

Take it to someone who knows what they're doing jetting-wise to get it set
up properly. It will definitely be worth the time and effort in the long
run.

The fuel screw is too rich. Lean the fuel screw out 1/4 turn at a time
until it starts hot. 1/4 turn is a big change. You may have to fine
tune it once you get it in the ballpark.
