Hi All,
I ride a 2007 CRF250X, and it carries my 106 kg with ease, so not too many
complaints there, but it has a flat spot at low rpm.
This is very irritating and has caused me some trouble in tight situations.
Mainly because I don't have throttle control at bottom end.
I replaced the standard air filter with a "Twinair" filter and that seem to
help a bit.
The agents seem to be clueless, any one out there with same experience and a
solution.
Regards

The pilot jet needs to be bumped to a 42. Some like a 45 better. If
your airbox is stock, start with a 42, and start at 2 1/4 turns out on
the fuel screw. If you still have a bog, turn the fuel screw out 1/4
turn at a time (up to 3 turns out). Also do a search on "AP Mod",
which involves tying the throttle linkage and accelarator pump linkage
together with an O-ring. Personally, I don't think the AP mod is
necessary, but I'm more of a throttle-roller.

If you go 3 turns out on the fuel screw you're at great risk of it vibrating
out due to lack of spring tension at that many turns out. The typical
response/requirement to needing more than 2-1/2 turns out is to raise the
size of the pilot jet so you don't NEED so many turns out.
Of the 5 250x's I've either owned or ridden, none of them have the alledged
"bog". But I, like you, tend to roll the throttle on, not snap it like
ex-2-strokers do.

I've never seen a 4 stroke not bog if you suddenly open the throttle
in low rpms...

Hey Andy,
My CRF bogged as delivered, but I was able to eliminate it with a
twist of the fuel screw. I don't know the actual screw setting, since
I couldn't get in there to turn it in/out easily enough - I just know
I was ~1/2 turn or so out from 'as delivered'.
What are you running for a pilot jet and where's your fuel screw? Do
you have ethanol in your gas?
We need to jet up a bit due to 10% ethanol, so I'm going to start
(once Spring gets here) with a 45 at 2 turns out. I opened up my
airbox as per CCC.

I kinda cut my box too big by accident. I started to follow an inner
line, then things just got away from me . My box is pretty close to
a full CCC cut, but I don't expect that the extra material I cut off
will make much difference vs. a 4x4 hole. I wasn't planning on
drilling my diffuser, but if it really doesn't make the bike much
louder, I might. I set the clip on the stock needle in position #5,
and I put in a 155 main to start - I figure it should be pretty close
to what I need. Of course, I won't know for 3-4 months, what with
snow on the ground and my bike strewn in little pieces all over my
garage.
The bike does take an awful long time to warm up, and you're right,
mine bogs and stalls right up until it's totally warm (at least 5
minutes).

Ditto with the KTM. Same carb.
