Post subject: Honda 1974 XL175 Diagnose Neutral Light failure

I've restored a 1974 XL175 after 21 years on a shed. I've got everything working except for the neutral indicator light. It does not come on when the bike is in neutral. The bulb is good. I have not been able to find a schematic of how the neutral light works. So I'm not sure how to trace the problem to it's source. The bike also has a hard time shifting into 2nd gear if I get the rpm's too high before shifting. Both the neutral light and shifting issues may have started when I had a little spill in the early 80's and the shifter pedal ended up pointing straight down and getting bent up pretty bad. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank You in advance.
