This was taken from the Steel City press conference.

"Alessi: Today went great. I definitely learned a lot from Millville.
I took what I learned at Millville and brought it here. I upped the
training in the last two weeks. I came here looking for a respectable
result like the top ten. I set my standards a little high at
Millville. I was expecting a third and for sure top five.

It’s different when you get out there on the track. You think you can
go the pace, but these guys are for real. These guys really are fast.
These are the best riders in the world I can tell you that. I didn’t
get as tired as Millville. I got good starts but I was in that pileup
with Joaquim. Joaquim took the outside and touched Reed. I came back
and charged hard and, someone said from 32nd and came up to 5th.

In that last lap I was pushing as hard as I could to get around Kyle
Lewis. In the second moto I had a good start. I saw Windham coming and
knew I could not hold him off. I tried my best. He definitely is the
best rider, he and RC. I went out there and put it together for 35
minutes and went home with 3rd overall. I went 5-4 for the day. I am
definitely excited.

I had no idea about this podium. I was thinking I would get 8th or
something. I learned some stuff. Every time I ride with these guys I
feel I learn something. I am not even 16 and a half years old yet. I
had a good day and had fun. The fans were cheering me on when Kyle
Lewis were going at it.

I don’t actually go on the Internet. I just hear about it. There was a
lot of pressure on that first race for me. I don’t want to say I
choked but I choked in that first moto and crashed. The press got to
me. I came here with more realistic goals. I enjoyed doing what I am
doing and battling with these guys. "

Maybe its just me but I don't see him as being too cocky. I'm sure
he's matured a lot in the last 3 weeks. I know he's said some things
in the past but he seems okay to me.

Sounds to me like he has had some SERIOUS councelling in the past couple weeks.
And, as many have voiced out here, I too think Tony may have gotten a clue
with losing the two sponsors.

No matter, seems the kid rode well and he is much more a "professional" with
this statement. Way to go young Mr. Alessi!

That part wasn't bad. The press article didn't mention that he kept
stepping up to the front of the podium waving for more applause
though. I'd typically write that off as an exhuberent 16 y.o. and
maybe I should anyway. The fact that he typically acts like a prick
made it come across differently to me though.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I really like Alessi. I got to see him at a local track that was running
the LL Regional. He was playing with the kids and was really nice. I
talked to the promoter too and he said the kids were cool and the father was
not a problem at all.

I think a lot of the bashing these guys takes is b/c too many people read
for sound bites and unless your a very good PR person already your going to
get your words used against you.

The Alessi's will be fine IMO.
