It depends on the bike, the Spada reliably gets ~10% better fuel range
with premium, though I can't discern a difference between 95octane
premiums and the 98 octane "super premuim" fuels. I have never heard it
ping on regular unleaded (and I highly doubt it has a detonation sensor
and ignition timing magic in the black box), so I can't actually explain
whats going on, but I _can_ see the results at the pump and the odo...
I usually use premium in it because the extra 20odd km fuel range is
well worth having on a bike that only gets ~200km to a tank even if it
did cost more, but as Clem points out, at todays prices premium is
usually less than 10% more expensive, so its worth doing anyway.
In the Monster, I get identical (within the usual limits of statistical
noise) mileage with regular unleaded or premium or super premium, so it
just gets regular these days...

The R100GS _very_ noticeably pings on 91, seems to be fine on 95.
Doesn't seem to have a big impact on mileage, but it's not as much
fun to ride when the bottom half of the powerband goes missing ...

In the four winters I've spent in Canberra, it's snowed in the city
*once*. I'm also yet to find any black ice.

Hmmm, I'll have to find when it was all the cars were playing on their roofs
due to black ice, regular ice and snow.

I don't know. It was all in Japanese!
Osago went back to Japan and so I have no idea what it means.

Bandit, RF900, TRX and TDM all do the same fwiw

I honestly thought all bikes did that eventually, although I suppose I
haven't been around enough modern 'vibe-free' bikes to be aware if they
don't.
One of the main advantages of fuel injection is that is tends not to
gradually wear.

TDM850s are known for it, I thought it was because the needles are leaned
over the way they are mounted in the slides (they don't fit not 'straight'
or inline with the emulsion tubes), not because of the pulsing twin, dunno.

That was the explanation I was given for the TRX and Bandit, the needles
are offset and hence wear one side (ie unevenly)
