The ignition system in a modern vehicle rarely causes any problems at
all.

You're very welcome.
Back in the early 1960's, a trained mechanic told me if my engine
wouldn't start and I thought the carburetor was the problem, I should
replace the spark plugs, points, and condensor and set the timing.
He said I should rebuild the distributor if the engine still wouldn't
start and I suspected the carburetor. He suggested replacing the
ignition coil if I thought the carburetor was the problem.
But modern vehicles have electronic ignition systems and it's rare for
an ignition problem to occur.
I start troubleshooting by adjusting the throttle to fully close the
butterflies and if it still won't start, I proceed with cleaning the
carburetor.
Anybody who rides a constant vacuum carburetor-equipped motorcycle
should understand that the carburetors do not have chokes, and that
starting such a motorcycle is done with the enrichener wide open and
the throttle completely closed. >> Stay informed about: Help Needed please |

So, if the starter is working, the ignition must be working O.K.?
Thanks for sharing that.

In my experience, it usually *is* electrical. When engines just stop
working after running fine a day or two before, it's more likely to be
electrical than anything else. Engines don't usually say: "Oh sod it, I
think I'll throw a rod or block my fuel lines" while parked up for 48
hours.
In this instance, though, the OPO seems so clueless that who knows what
he's done to it?

*Sigh*
Not with the various electronic black boxes, no. But with the coils, the
wiring, the plug caps, and especially the various connector blocks, it's
not rare at all.

Some of them were scientists, engineers, and architects of Germany's
industrial revolution.

I dunno if the kill switch on that bike allows you to turn the engine
over with no ignition, but it's always worth checking the bleedin'
obvious.
