Hi guys,
I just picked up 2003 VX250 with 3k miles yesterday, couldnt get a run test before buy coz the battery was death. Today i just replaced a new battery and spark plugs but when the engine is cold it couldnt start. I kept starting and also tried the push start till engine get litter warmer and it could idle but if i twist the throttle engine will kill. Seems like it will idle if the engine get hotter. Dont really know how to explain this but seems like at the rpm around idle to 2,000 engine always try to shut off but if it rev over 2,000 the bike runs very good and normally. I have to push it very hard and try keep rpm up all time to get the bike run.
Im uploading VDO right now and will post the like once it is done.
Thanks

Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)

There is most likely varnish built up in the carb. I had the same problem on
my v-star after letting it sit over the winter.

Most likely the pilot/idle circuts in the carb are clogged. These are relatively small and the first to plug up. This is also why once above that, the bike will run: at that point your on the enrichment and/or main circuts which tend to be harder to clog.

So, i'd start with a carb cleaning and go from there.
