I just got a helmet camera set-up for my b-day. If you want to buy a nice
rig that is ready to go when you get it and you don't mind paying a couple
$$ for it, <a rel="nofollow" style='text-decoration: none;' href="http://www.helmetcamera.com" target="_blank">www.helmetcamera.com</a> is a pretty sweet unit. I haven't tried
mine on the bike yet but it is a quality camera, mount, wiring and
what-knot.
You need to have a video camera ... actually all you need is a vcr that you
can put in a back pack. I plan on buying the cheapest DV camera I can find
(classifieds, ebay, so on) to use for my on-bike set-up so I don't risk
smashing my high $ camera.
The unit has it's own battery pack and cabling to hook up to your
camera(vcr) along with a mic. I purchased the remote switch as well so I
can operate the camera(vcr) without having to dig it out of my pack. With
the right camera you can perform several functions including on/off,
record/stand-by with one button. Pretty slick.
This particular unit has an aluminum guard/mount that uses industrial velcro
to mount any place you want and then the camera itself mounts inside the
guard.
It's a very well thought out system ...
If you want to save some money and are handy at all, you can buy all the
parts online and build it yourself. I think a couple folks here have done
that or have friends that have.
