Hope someone in here can help. We have an old '86 Kawasaki KE100. It was
running fine, then wouldn't start. We played around with the timing, plugs,
wires, etc. and got it to start. Problem now is that it races at full
throttle and we can't get the RPMs to come down and have to hit the kill
switch before the top flies off. The only thing I can do is hold my hand
over the carb to choke it out and barely lift it off to let minimal air in.
Any ideas of where to start fixing this? Or what the problem is? The
wrench at a dealer thought it might be the camshaft seals were gone and
letting in unlimited air. Any thoughts? Please reply to this group.

Thanks,
Rosscoe

Are you sure the throttle slide in the carburetor isn't stuck open???

I would pull the carb slide and make sure you don't have it in backwards. I
have done this before. There is a guide pin on the inside of the carb and it
should line up with the slot in the slide. Make sure the slide goes all the
way down into the carb body.

Camshaftseals sounds very likely...that or the hose between the carb and
cylinder is leaking.

If you ainīt comfortable with repairing the engine yourself, send the bike
to a shop before it explodes.

This was it. It wasn't backwards but I put the one from the other carb I
had in it's place and it seems to run OK now. Now if I can just keep the
spark happening....
