I had one for a while, a mate had the GS850G.
Both good bikes but the best of the bunch was the GS1100G... probably
the best air cooled sidecar hauling donk ever built!

Bloody rippers. Mates of mine owned GS 850, 1000 and 1100 G models in
the eighties. The most comfortable pillion seat I've ever ridden on,
too. I'd be happy to own a good one.

GS wasn't known as GS back then. He started to be called GS in the late 90's >> Stay informed about: GS 1000 G |

Yeah,
I've had one for years. A great old machine. I ride with guys who keep
buying new bikes and they turn up on their Triumph triples and Dukes and
BMW 1200 inlines etc and they ask me when I'm going to upgrade. I would
swap the old GS for any of their bikes in an instant, but when we are on
the road and I wind the throttle on from about 4k rpm the old motor gets
into its stride and I just love this old bike. You have to wrestle it into
corners a bit, but consider that a plus as it means less work in the gym.
The motor has had a top end rebuild, and the original pipes replaced with
4 into 1 and a very small/noisy can. I've added a touring screen and an
oil cooler for the heat we get out here. That's about it, the rest is as
it came from the shop.

I was still using BBS systems back then almost exclusivly although work
did have a 20 hours a month dial up account (for $199 a month, about a
weeks average wages) which required an STD call to Bendigo (or Melbourne
or Ballarat) to use so I actually had an email address and was using a
couple of email lists.
I'm not sure if Melbride was going by then or not...

Particularly when the guys with the cross and hammers are on your
team !
Does "accidentally" shooting the colonel in the back (a la Vietnam and
WW1) count as friendly fire ?
