Quite a peaceful intro into the annual pre-MOT fettle.
As it was cold, I got started late, and contented myself with getting
all three bikes out of the garage, starting the Wing [1], and topping
up the oil on the CBX.
That done, I tidied all my tools away into their correct
containers/locations, and produced a whole bin-liner full of rubbish.
A bacon buttie then consumed my attention for a while, and then it was
back into the garage.
Windscreen fun beckoned. I clamped my old screen to the new one, and
marked out the hole for the vent, then attacked it with a carbon
cutting wheel on the Dremel. A bit of sanding smooth, and the vent
fitted first time. Lovely.[2]
Then I turned my attention to the "new"[3] swing-arm. The old one had
rusted sufficiently to rub on the tyre on the return from the MiL's
last September. The new arm has a mere patina of surface rust, but I
coated all potential trouble spots with Kurust, and will cover with
black hammerite before fitting.
The box of bits to be applied to the Wing was reviewed and pronounced
"adequate".
So, all I need to do now, is fit the clutch line to the 'bird, source
a proper rack for the CBX[4], then set a week aside to do the Wing.[4]
Roll on next week.
[1] It had proved reluctant last week, but gave in after a mere thirty
seconds this week. Seemed to run on four or five for while, before
settling down when warm.
[2] Much better than the Skidmarx screen, but then it should be, given
the cost.
[3] Ebay success - off a 10k mile Wing - £10.
[4] Given up with the other one. Plus, I'm "viewing" an alternator.
[5] S/arm, clutch, S/h bearings, front brakes. A lot of electrical
fiddling, and a bloody good clean. Fit new exhaust gaskets, as I
should have done five years ago. It's got well farty lately.
