I didn't figure you would have. You're a dirtbiker after all Wink

I've been having problems with my shoulder for a year and a half or
more. Thought I tore something up digging up my water pipe. Got bad
enough that I had to do something a couple months ago. In the mean
time, various "experiments" I did suggested it was in my neck and not
the shoulder at all. Not wanting to get cut I decided to go the
chiropractor route to start with.

Verdict, a couple compressed discs in my neck, the worst right where
the nerves run out to the arm, C-5 or whatever the hell they call it.
The digging just aggravated it, it's a result of long term abuse and
injury ... like "falling the f' off of Idaho" and other embarrasing
events.

The chiro, Doc Wong, told me about an accident he had getting thrown
from a horse, and then being stepped on. The quick and easy way to get
to what took me years of hard work.

If you planted your head hard there's a chance you hammered one of
those puppies flatter than a pancake. It might get better with rest
and time, or it might not. Like most things you're probably better off
getting it attended to right away, 'cuz it'll just get worse with
time.

Biggest problem with chiro' is that a lot of insurance companies view
them as quacks and won't cover you. Still, it ain't hugely expensive
to get checked out just so you know what's up in there. Besides, all
the cracking and crunching noises are kind of entertaining.

The other one I might add is that they go where they don't belong. My back
surgery way back when was very hard to earn. I listened to all you clowns
(I will leave out my stairway/door idea as that was merely the fallout of
a highly innovative mind:). Visited the doc... she folded me up... pain
went thru the roof and I was in surgery days later. Doc said she could
have crippled my left leg (do you LIKE carrying my briefcase?) and the
muscles that prevent me from needing diapers. Dana would love that...

Yeah, but you were FUBAR to begin with. Doc sent a lightning bolt down
my arm just by pulling my head back, which of course I was already
able to do with my own muscles. The best part was laying on my side in
bed, semi-fetal, and straightening my neck out ... arm immediately
tingling, which went away instantly when I tipped my head forward
again ... all the while letting the pillow support it's weight.

He may not fix me up "good as new", but I'm at least able to sit at a
desk for brief periods and work at a computer. It was getting to the
point where I was worried about being able to make a living without
being in agony.

I still think there's something torn up in my shoulder, but at this
point getting it worked on would be like putting a new crank in an
engine when it won't run anyway 'cuz the ignition is burned out.

I completely agree... I had read how surgery works.. you have to
demonstrate the need. Actually, the surgeon said to me he pulled the most
amount of crap out of my spinal canal of anyone he ever operated on. But
my point is that medical people (indeed people who show up to help with
any problem) aren't supposed to make it worse. The "doctor" I saw was
rated as "the best one" in our area. She didn't ask for any imaging. She
took a very incomplete history compared to others I've seen. The
examination was over in a flash. Then we walked into a hallway where there
were about 5 different treatment rooms... and she said: "well, I GUESS we
could do this... or this.. Want to try an X?". I'd have to check with Dave
Dude but this sounds like the conversation that might lead in to a Chinese
basket job in a Malaysian whore house.

Geez... how about seeing a real doctor to.. just for laughs. So we'll have
something to talk about. Might be a good idea.

I know what you mean. For a while, United took the smoked salmon off of
the long-hauls. My effectiveness at the far end definitely took a dive
during that time.

Something to keep in mind.. some issues, and I know neuro issues will fall
into this case.. have a "time out". For example, my issue. It took 22
weeks to get serviced. By the 5th week I was on top of the lion's share of
the stuff I needed to know and knew that the outside limit they'd go is 24
months. The theory was that after that, removing pressure on the sciatic
nerve had a lower probability of decreasing the pain. Don't put the front
end of this off. There may be a countdown you need to worry about and
right after you locate the best neuro guy (not orthopod), you need to ask
him about the countdown. Good luck.
