The HIPPA act isn't a done deal, peeps.. The Senate passed the Act, just
before recess, as I understand it.. There was a Bill introduced on the floor
of the Senate and there was a separate Bill introduced on the floor of
Congress.. So far, Congress hasn't shown interest in the Bill and it hasn't
been assigned..
The Senate passing our Bill is definitely a step in the right direction..
However, the next step is to get behind your congressional representative to
make sure the Bill doesn't die there.. In order for this Bill to pass and
get to the president's desk, those congress critters have to know that many
of their constituents are affected by it and want them to pass this
important legislation.. Do it..
For the ones who are not familiar with the Bill, here's my take on what it
amounts to..
Insurance companies have in place, legislation that excludes paying any
claim that arises from "risky" or dangerous behavior of the claimant..
(that's the guy that's bought insurance and thinks he's covered)..
Motorcyclists, boaters, water skiers, hunters.. etc. etc. can be excluded
from coverage.. Splitting hairs, they might even consider a riding lawnmower
being "risky" or dangerous.. who knows..
The HIPPA Bill removes those exclusions from the insurance company's
liability..
Everyone with an interest in a level playing field with their insurance
companies should also be interested in the successful passage of this Bill
through Congress.. The Senate moving the Bill is only a partial victory and
the Congress should be aware that Americans are interested in their
actions.. Get busy, peeps.. it is still uphill..
