If it works it's cheap and effective. I copied some old tapes to my HD
disk recorder recently just using a SCART lead to connect. However, I
had to get one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290201990103
to strip the MacroVision protection from a pre-recorded tape.

Has your VCR got S-Video out? Mine hadn't so I had to use an old PVR
and connect via the UHF.

Looks ok to me - but as Paul says, check that your VCR has at least
one of the outputs needed.

At the worst you might also need a Scart to "red, white and yellow phono
plug type things"[1] adapter.
[1] Available from Asda - Technical eh?

Actually, when I replied I hadn't read the advert, just seen the
picture and assumed it was just S-Video. The adapters that I've seen
are only one way between scart and S-Video - the wrong way.

I've got an ATI AGP graphics card with video i/o and TV tuner, that worked
fine until I added an ATI PCI card to support a 2nd monitor. The cards are
8500 and 9250 series and it seems that the drivers and multimedia support
clash. The setup works fine for everything *except* video/TV in.
After pissing about with various combinations of drivers etc, I've now just
bought an Easycap USB for the occasional video capture from analogue
camcorder, vcr, digibox PVR, etc.
