Done a Google on this and I can't get a straight answer to what I
thought might be a simple question.

Running OpenSUSE 10.2 on a P4 MicroStar board. I am not dual booting so
don't need any Windows compatible issues. Got the OS loaded and settled
so just want to add a few more harware bits and bobs and then make the
internet connections to fish out more drivers.

EdiMax seems to have been flagged as one candidate and their website
seems to confirm this. Any others? Preferably avoiding too much tweaking
and fiddling as I am still new to Linux and just want to check it out.

It seems part of the issue is chipsets and even with the same model
number, you get different chipsets, some maybe Linux compatible, others
not, Linksys being a case in point.

TIA

Steve

The Atheros Chipset is well supported in Linux, using the madwifi-ng
drivers. Things like Ubuntu LiveCD's will simply detect the card and
it'll work perfectly.

I have a "Netgear 108Mbps WG311T", which uses the Atheros chipset and it
works fine in Linux, using madwifi-ng drivers. PCIid is 168C:0013.

Hmmm...space daemon & wpa supplicants.......

Sounds like a case for the Stargate SG1 crew ; - )

Thanks for your input but I'm beginning to think a reel of Cat 5 and
some crimpers might be a better solution .....However, never say die and
all that

Cheers

Bwhahahaah. What others have said is on the button. Beware, though, PC
manufacturers can change spec at whim so any information you read /may/
have about what's onboard may be wrong.

That said, kernel support is improving with each release and, on the
whole, it is getting better. If you end up with a broadcom based device,
e-mail me for a cure.
