5. And you really enjoy being the center of attention. So you keep on
whining about how your bike doesn't run, instead of fixing the simple
problem.

Mechanic$ at a $tealer$hip "playing" customer$ for their money? What
is this world ever coming to?

Customer$ are supposed to automatically *know* know that they are
expected to bring in bushel baskets of money as offerings to the
$tealer, and all customer$ are supposed to just *know* that a five
year old motorcycle belongs in the junk yard.

It's how Japan INC *works* for chrissakes!

I have to agree with saddlebag , that bike is hardly even broken in !
If your rings WERE stuck , it appears they're unstuck now . I suspect
that dealer is playing you ... get that compression tester , see for

I think it goes back a few years.

Back before Krusty exposed his racist homophobic tendancies he replied to my
and others questions with detailed (and mostly accurate) but perhaps rather
pedantic repsonses. (See his comments re: your couch and carbs)

I suggested that he should write a book. He took offense. And the game was
on.

I'm not really a fan of the retro look Ducati's. I'm sure they can be a
fun bike, but to me, they are just plain Jane models with a bit of make-up.

>

Like a lot of the others here, I'm dubious about the shops diagnosis.
Even an engine with low compression will start (but
smoke).........unless the rings have snapped and the piston is just
floating around in there......but that is very rare and you'd hear it!!

Buy the $72k RR!

At the least, get a second opinion on the F4i. You seem to enjoy riding
it, so an engine problem shouldn't mean 'sell, sell, sell'. If you are
happy with the rest of the bike, just bite the bullet and get it fixed
(or put another engine in!)

But, if youv'e had enough of it and have a hankering for a 'new' bike,
just roll it into the corner for a 'project' to enhance your mechanical
abilities (one day). Then go buy the bike of your dreams.....enjoy your
new Harley. Smile

I rode 2 Buells, an Aprilia Caponard and the GT1000 last year. The GT just
did it for me, I can't really explain why. Sound? Brakes? Seating position?
Fit and finish? The dealer?

I don't know. But that bike is it.

Yeah baby! A home equity loan. Unfortunately it was already sold.

MASSIVE swing arm, wild exhaust routing, it just screamed race bike. Their
no question in my mind that it is the ultimate street legal sportbike in the
world.

I am a cheap bastid, I just can't see dumping over $1k into a $3.5k bike.

Don't laugh. I have considered a 1200 Sportster, but I'm sure I would be
disappointed with the power. If only they made one with near 100hp that
looked like this:

means, is it?

Krusty does seem to go through swings doesn't he? He's been helpful to
me on several occasions, if only to understand something I would
normally be clueless about and have no desire to really know more of.
But you do have to be careful, he has formed some hard and fast rules
over the years which sound pretty definitive except....they aren't.

I'm fascinated by his family tree myself, can you just IMAGINE fights
around the dinner talk? The Emperor vs McArthur, Custer vs Sitting
Bull, Lee vs Grant, Patton and Rommel? All in the same family?

Maybe not being famous like all his other relatives just depresses
him?

I've always thought that SV650s were performance bargains, but roughly
the same performance as a Desmosedici? Whoa! THat REALLY is good!

The problem is to find a compression tester with the correct plug adapter.
This goes for both 10 and 12mm plugs..
If you can access the plughole "straight", you can use the rubber cone
type, just lean against it hard enough, and have a friend run the starter
at w.o.t.

If the bike runs normally and starts normally both warm and cold, I doubth
your problems are compression related.

Do you at any time get any poping/backfire sounds either in the
airfilterbox or out the exhaust?
Could happen both at accel and deceleration.

If you experience either(With a non leaky exhaust) you most likely have
slightly burned valveseats/valves. Poping out the exhaust = leaky exhaust
valves, in the airfilterbox = intake valves.

Burned valves/valveseats are often caused by valve clearance being out of
spec, as in tight. This again is often due to negelect of service schemes
at correct intervals.

It can sometimes(as in rare) be caused by ignition timing being way off,
as in retarded(related to exhaust valves).

Looks nice, but center of gravity....
Made for a dirt flattrack? Similar to what we call Speedway in Europe..
