That V4 hit me in the eye like a big pizza pie... it's amore!!! I should
fly over to Italy and personally shake Ducati's hand on choosing the
engine configuration with the brightest future... even though they
choked on using word "V4" on their Web site and instead coined it the "4
cylinder in L layout"... not very flattering... could it be the fact
that a V4 was the engine configuration that mostly spoiled their string
of WSB championships??? chow...

(Note click on the word DucatiDesmosediciRR... there are 7 pics under
engine)

phew. the owner was about 5'6 and 135 lbs, anyone bigger shouldn't even
bother trying, but man, it was a sweet looking little machine.

<yawn> Another museum or 'collector' bike using the shitty desmo valve drive
and at 50.000 euros, silly in the extreme. Buy it if you can to impress your
other dimwit friends and parasites.

Could be that since 1971, when they first introduced their 90-degree v-twin,
they've referred to it as an L-twin. 33 years of tradition would indicate that
a 4-cyinder laid out in the same configuration would be referred to as an L-four
or something like that.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Man you are so right! You would think that after all this time trying to get
the desmo valve train to work, they would have dumped it for push rods.
Harley technology is well proven--almost bullet proof. Stupid Italyans. They
need to follow the example of the engineering marvel from Milwaukee.

At $60,000 per, I doubt it'll have much of a future.

Ah, the subtle irony of it all. Gotta love it!

It's a WIDE vee, okay? Technically, a right-angle Vee. Looks more like
an "L" to me than a "V." So Guido got it right.

That bike makes me want to cook something with prosciutto [1]! Those
guys know cured meats, boy howdy!

Charles

[1] "Straw and Hay with Prosciutto and Peas"

1) Roll up some proscuitto (not that cheesy Canadian or Spanish crap -
use real stuff from Parma or thereabouts - oh yeah, and it's sliced
super thin, remember?) and cut across the grain to form thin shreds
2) Boil up some "white" and "green" fettucine (hence the "straw" and
"hay" name). Don't use any of that cello crap. Make it yourself, or
find a decent deli. Maybe about a cup. Hell, I never measure, so what
do I know?
3) Naturally, start with a shitload of sweet cream butter (1/2 a stick
if you're a sissy) in a saute pan over medium heat
4) Cook up some onions (I prefer thin-sliced shallots) until translucent
5) Add about a cup of heavy cream ("Who wants to live forever?" -F.
Mercury)
6) Add some green peas (frozen is okay, say half a bag). Cook until
tender (2-3 min, longer if frozen)
7) Add the proscuitto and cook about 2 minutes more (it doesn't need
cooking, silly, you're just warming it)
Cool Add the drained pasta. Salt and pepper to taste
9) Here's the good part: add about a cup of parmaggiano reggiano. Damn
that stuff is heaven
10) Stir it up good and enjoy! Eat as much as you can before the
freeloaders get a whiff of it and want some, too

Buells prove many, many things. Usually a painful lesson, but proof
nonetheless...

Yep! I do not Agricultural Equipment hidden in motorcycle clothing. If you
want an up to date opinion read what N. Weaver had to say about the Buell.
It is in a previous thread. The one I rode felt like a torpedo in the open
sea. Thank God no turns were present. Pull in the clutch, push the shift
lever down three inches and bang your in second. If I want to going rowing
for a gear, I would by an old Zundapp 125cc 2stroke.

Me, I do not like Harleys. I know Harley riders who say they need their own
special Olympics. This is OK. This is also why they have vintage racing. The
V-Rod is considered blasphemous among the Harley crowd.

Go figure...

are they thinking?

Ducati 999 vs Ducati 749 - Hi, I was looking at purchasing a new Duc. A dealer near me has a 2003 999 and 2003 749s available. Both are good deals but my question is weather the 999 is worth the extra $$. The 749 S has all the adjustability and suspension toys but with 10 less..

thinking of getting a Ducati - I think i have finally broke down into buying a Ducati. It will be next spring after I sell my R6. My question is, are Ducatis great bike on the maintenance? Example, I would never buy a Harley Davidson cause my uncle is always having problems with..

New Ducati ST Series - Any news on the upcoming ST series? Learnt from MCN that the upper fairing, clocks and bags will be changed in 04/05. Also, Ducati will add an ST3 with three valves per cylinder between the current ST2 and ST4/4s. More concrete news would be appreciated....

DUCATI MAINTENANCE - I am in a bit of a dilemma. I took my S4 monster in for a 12K tune up, and while I was at it I had my cams degreed and adjustable pulleys installed. A new rear tire was installed along with a 520 chain, and sprockets. The total bill was 2243. Clearly,..
