Made a trip to the local California DMV to get the paper work started
for an off-road to dual sport conversion today. Lady told me that
process is currently on hold. She said the DMV messed up, that the
conversions were not Federally approved, and recent (don't know what
time span that means) applications might have to be recalled.
Whatsupwithdat? I thought the AMA , BRC and other organizations got
them straightened out on that. We were suppose to have until January
to get the process started. No new updates on the DMV site that I
could find.
Anyone more in the know than that?
Mike

Sorry to hear of your woe.
That is one of the many reasons I no longer reside in Calif.
Now I'm going to take a ride on my street legal2004 KTM EXC 525 that I bought
with the $ I saved being free of the Plethora of Taxes by living in Nevada.
I will do this wearing a Glock 26(legaly)
While riding on 1000s of acres of forest(legaly) then I can stop off at a
casino or brothel(legaly) and maybe the pet store and pick up a ferret(legaly)
P.S. I dont care to partake in the last 3 but at least I have the option to
make a choice.

Thanks Leyland for the reality check. Those of us in Kalifornia
know it sux here. Rubbing it in only leads to a rash I'd rather not
scratch..
If I wasn't such a "one trick pony" and had sellable job skills
out of this area. I'd be riding the great divide and sport'n a hogleg
like yourself.
Until I win the lotto or become rich enough that I can thumb my nose
at these scumbag "tax'n spend and invite them in" liberal politicians
we have here. I've got to make the best of it.
At least I have my GasGas EC250 Dual-sported.....And I perfer my Sig P228
to a Glock, any day. =:^)
Next time you want to go do one of those killer Sierra dual sport loops.
Post a note here. I'd love to join in.

Yea, already know that. I'm subscribed to the Minden Century 21
realestate mailing list, get a couple of listings a day. Problem is,
i'm only 47, not close to retirement, live on 2.5 acres in a 2000 sqft
house that I paid 79k for, and make 74k/year here in the middle of the
desert with every fricking known holiday off, 208 hours off paid
vacation and 104 sick hours paid and riding right out my drivway. I
use it all. If I could transpose all that to Nevada, i'd be there in a
heart beat. Smith Valley, Topaz, or south of Minden. The only jobs
that I fit into up there (machining parts for an Americas cup or the
like) pay about 24k/year, and the homes, a 1100sq/ft trailor on small
lot runs 100k with higher property taxes. Even that said, i'd give
anything to live near Tahoe or Carson city. So I can't shoot Ravins
with my model 504, but this new Crosman CO2 12shot automatic at least
keeps the SOB's off my roof, and sometimes I get lucky. Hell of a fine
if I get caught though.
Home Depot just opened up in town at noon today. Noone was left at
work, something about adminastrative leave or something:).
No shit though, i'd love to move there. If I could manage these damn
credit cards better, get out of vintage racing and just get into
riding, get my kid off to college, get my girlfriend that damn Austin
Martin she is always talking about, I might be able to get a "second"
home up that way, change residence with a Nevada lein holder on the
titles and keep Nevada registration. They could all kiss my butt until
I retire:)
Hell, somebody has to stick around to turn out the lights.

Holy crap... You've got it good!!! Maybe I should move on up
your way...
Im 46, live on a 120' X 68' lot with a 980 sqft house that I
paid 200K for 8 years ago. Don't make near what you do and never
seem to have the $$$ or the vacation time off to enjoy the "good life".
Damn, this whole thread really brought me down a notch.. Im leaving.* <G>

* To go get ready for riding and camping over the Thanksgiving holiday.*

Take care all and make the best of it. It's our only chance in this lifetime.

If you don't mind me asking Jeff, what line of work are you in?
