I bought my bike in June with 4,866 miles on it. Today, it passed 9,732,
so it now has double the mileage that it had when I bought it (the first
half took 21 years to accumulate). I don't understand why some people buy
bikes and then barely use them.

1) They have too much money
2) Their mother is no longer there to tell them no!
3) They have a 7 pucker factor experience and get too scared to ride any
more
4) They got caught up in their buddies having a bike and got one of their
own but did not really want one
5) They got married and she does not like riding
6) They bought one and then wifie got knocked up and they had to become
responsible and stopping risking their life
7) They found they could not carry golf clubs on the bike and decided they
liked to golf with their buddies more
Cool They found that the majority of riding is done alone and they did not
like that aspect
9) They got divorced and bought one to show that "bitch" they do too know
how to have fun
10) They just were looking for something and biking was not it

I'm sure there are ten more reasons.

*Grin*. The funny thing is that I've not really had time to go on any
rides or take roadtrips this summer. 95% of the miles put on the bike
were either done commuting, on local errands, or taking road trips that
would normally have been made by cage.

Since I bought the bike, the cage has only accumulated around 2k miles.
That being said, I'm thinking of selling both the bike and the cage and
using the money to get a Miata[*] - infinitely more practical than a bike
in the Northeastern winters, and my current cage (Ovlov) isn't much fun to
drive. I'll probably get another bike before next Spring (maybe a dual
sport) 'cos I can't imagine going bikeless for more than a few months Sad.

[*]-> the closest four-wheeled conveyance to a bike that's readily
available in the US, and is still in production. When I had the FIAT
Spider, I once took my dad for a ride in it - is quote was "that's not a
car - that's a four-wheeled motorcycle!" Driving the Mazda gives a very
similar feeling.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
