Some of my favorite riding memories center around particular bikes,
but I think it's more about that place in time than it is the bikes.
If I really had to pick one, I'd have to flip a three-sided coin(?) to
choose between my 1981 MX100 (first bike), 1987 XR600R (first and only
new dirt bike), and my 1989 KX125.

You guys get rid of bikes?
What a concept.
I wish I'd kept my 1970 CZ 250. And the "71 DT-2MX that I traded for
the CZ. Other than those 2 I still have them all, just so I won't have
to face this kind of remorse in the future.
I need a bigger garage...

I sold my first bike to guy who parked it!
I spent a TON of money in crank, piston, valves, etc, etc, etc before
selling it and the guy just let it collecting dust! I don't regret
selling, but I wish it was serving the purpose it was built for.

I wish I had kept my 1st bike, the 71 Suzuki Trailhopper (MT50). Suzuki's
answer to the stamped frame trail 70.

Didn't we just go over this a few weeks ago?
Exactly what I was thinking.. I've neve sold a
bike before.
I gave one away a couple years ago, (CT90). and my friend
gave it back after fixing it all up with new parts and paint.
Instant free resto.
If I (HAD) to sell one....I guess the first to go would be either
that CT90 or the CR250R Elsinore.

I am generally not nostalgic so my answer is "None". Every new bike I've
bought has been better than the one it replaced. >> Stay informed about: what's the dirtbike you wish you kept? |

Looks like big tanks were popular for that bike.

If it had been mine, I would've regretted selling the '77 YZ-400
(it belonged to the family friend who got us into dirt biking). I used
to ride it quite often when I was 13 or so. It had a great power-band,
plush (mono-shock) suspension, and a big-ass desert tank. The
suspension wouldn't be up to today's standards, but it'd still work
fine for the casual trail rider even today. The broad power-delivery
made the bike extremely friendly to ride, yet you could wick it up
when you hit the fire roads. I was short at that age, so I'd have to
use the running start (and running stop) method, but I could start the
thing myself and once you got going it was just a pleasure to ride.
My later 490 was fun, but I don't really regret selling that one.
It was heavy with poor brakes and could sometimes be difficult to
start. Nice power-delivery on this one too, just probably too much for
the type of riding I enjoy now.
