, you were likely hiding from the
draft with a 4F or college deferment anyway. You soil the memories of
REAL folks by drudging up your guilt for lacking the balls to do
something worthwhile with your life back then.

I was smoking dope and screwing virgins in the back seat of my dad's car.
Are you insinuating that wasn't worthwile?

I was 17 when Nixon pulled out of South Vietman, purely for political gain.

As long as somebody else is buying? DUH! I have my biases but I wont let them
get in the way of free beer!

as a rule though...no, no I don't. And I've irish that is only three
generations off the boat. My grandmothers family dropped an "E" from the end of
the last name when they got here to avoid discrimination. Dad's dad was born
and raised in NW OK and had a strongish prussian accent(Teased about it all
through school and it was an influence as to why they didn't send him overseas
in WW1 phase two.)

I know about discrimination from both sides of the family...I didn't sleep
during history when they talked about what was done to south america in the
name of "GOD" I may go back to belief in Brigit or Bhudda. Far kinder and
fairer than what the norse called the "White God" feck 'em all their hate
filled racist and you wont convince me otherwise.

South Vietnam was overrun by the Viet Cong, our enemy. Vietnam is
completely Communist. Saigon is called Ho, fucking, Chi Minh City. The war
had NOTHING to do with our normalized relations with Communist Vietnam, nor
did it have anything to do with the developing free market economy there.
All the war did was destroy lives and property and fatten the wallets of US
defense contractors.

Okay, is there a Mac Donald's in Hanoi? Don't you think that would have
happened if we left well enough alone?

If you served in Vietnam, I salute you. If you think that war was right and
served a purpose, I pity you.

50,000 troops dead. For what?

I have several friends both mentally and physically maimed for life. This is
a national tragedy, considering the eventual Communist takeover.

I can't believe that a patriot like you has no respect for our war dead. I
can't believe that a patriot like you is not outraged at the lives our young
men gave for a political game that we lost. Some of these guys were MY
friends and relatives, and yours too.

Actually, I was enlisting in the Navy at the time. When Nixon ended the
draft, I changed my mind, got married and paid taxes forever.

Just a question:
What does Saigon having western style sky scrapers have to do with
democracy? Or are you implying that only democratic people can build such
sky scrapers?

Have you ever seen Russian high rises? Chicom and Soviet buildings and
infrastructure are very poorly done, including nuclear reactors. Why is
left as an exercise for the student.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

They've got enough money to show economic prosperity and help from the
outside, vs typical communist isolationism.

What does that have to do with the war in Vietnam?

BTW, when I went to Washington and saw the Vietnam Memorial, I was stricken
with intense sadness. I cried for the tragic and wholly unnecessary loss of
young American lives. Lives that could have been spent raising families and
pursing the American dream.

Kennedy wanted out? He was murdered because of that, wasn't he?
Oh well, My country, right or wrong, no matter what. Right?
